Re: Most Scots Appear To Be Coming To Their Senses....

I was up in the Scottish capital recently and ingratiated myself with the natives. Speaking to many people over the course of a few days; business owners, employees, Govt workers - not ONE had the tiniest inclination towards Independence, many said they would jump ship in the unlikely event of a YES...

Re: Merry Christmas, y'all!

I'm not a Christmas guy but I was hoping to at least see my family today, recent storms in the UK left me stranded in the middle of nowhere however so it's just a lonely hotel room and basic cable for me. The annoying thing is that the family departs for the sun tomorrow so I can't catch up either :...

Re: Can we buy The Bull, Hen?

It's definitely just for the lease - on top of the monthly and bills a place like that would have to be busy 365 before you can even dream of a profit - there a reason pubs are closing in one, long, contant sad stream in the UK.

Re: Hen's cooking marathon....

As I mentioned on Taff's blog the stew looks awesome. The last time I used oxtail was in a similar marathon phở, but the endurance is worth it for an unforgettable flavour. Chefs like Blumenthal are annoying however however in that their championing of certain ingredients pushes the price for them t...

Re: Music recommendations

Never met her, or even knew of the band when I was passing clunkers at the other singer. I was the only bloke in the building who hadn't a clue about Finnish prog (or indeed Swedish, as Anette was quick to ascertain) but my full knowledge of the words to 'Does Your Mother Know' stood me in good stea...

Re: Music recommendations

I had a drink with Anette Olzon a few years ago, in amongst a smattering of Scandinavian musicians. My chat with her was definitely the highlight of the evening, as most of them were weird and or wankers

They also do 'all' the drugs and as such these competitions are going to be shelved forever before too long, at least as far as mainstream exposure is concerned.

Re: Adventure + Photography

That first shot is 'Smugglers Cove', on the coast of Zakynthos, Greece. I went there with a lass who was well into climbing. Me? I smoked some weed and, inspired by the shipwreck, wrote a passable poem about the intransigence of death :-D

Re: Pirate Party

Great night great fun, but odd. Remember this was a joint 18th birthday party for two girls, 40 spotty adolescents on a boat with a free bar. No one got hammered and passed out/threw up. There were no major split ups, no fights, most remained sober. Definitely no evidence of any Persians having bee...

Re: Pasty championship

Gob, I shit you not; my grandmother of Yorkshire heritage once asked me what herbs & spices were! Though she baked lovely pies and certainly knew what cinnamon and nutmeg were, I doubt she used much else besides salt & pepper her whole cooking life. A pasty needs nothing else, if yours 'does' you c...

I love covers that strip the familiarity of famous tracks, and lay bare the essence of the original you neglect through ubiquity. So there.

Re: South Africans are (not) having a beef

I love the cricket, go to many English (and indeed Welsh) grounds and get good and pissed and enjoy (or not) the play. Then, around lunchtime, the smell of fried onions takes me to the burger kiosk and I order a 'hoof-burger', and I eat it, knowing full well it's about as pure-beef as the thing we r...
