By the looks of it Falwell would have made a better Randy.

And you're right about Conky - he got a little weird.

Yes, you can hear Fallwell's 'It was all in good fun' call to the radio station here.

Re: Televangelists Never Fall Well

Somewhere I read that this was a Trailer Park Boys themed costume party. Fallwell was allegedly Julian with his ubiquitous rum and coke. My favorite TPB clip is when Bubbles is driving the car plus trailer full of hash and they are being pursued by a police helicopter. Bubbles loves kitties and ther...

Re: Trump Gives a Subtle Shout Out to Semites

My guess is that his staff who typed the speech wanted to avoid the very real possibility that he would say 'Yose Mite' (rhymes with Marmite) and, in order to get something approaching the proper pronunciation gave him a phonetic rendering 'Yo SEMitee' or something like that in parentheses. [ s] I'm...

Re: Coin Shortage?

I was once (just once) in a unisex salon in London, c 1982. The long blonde haired woman ahead of me looked at herself in the mirror and threw her arms around David and gave him a big kiss. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" When it came to my turn I sat myself down in the chair and said "Mind if I ...

I support BLM but I recognize that there are some people, of all hues, who are just assholes. I don't see any contradiction there.

Re: 2020 Senate polls and projections

This poll published today has the Iowa Democrat Greenfield up 42% to 40% (19% undecided) against Republican Joni Ernst. And among that 19%, Greenfield has a slight edge in whom they lean towards.

Re: Eye candy. Just because.

Of course for those of us who are true believers, there's always University President and man-about-town and role model Jerry Falwell Jr. Here he is as Julian from TPB. We should probably thank our lucky stars that he did not decide to go to the party as Ricky. Julian is definitely the more mellow c...

Re: RayThom back in hospital

Well I've told her; but I am reluctant to give her that sort of info which should come from her dad. I think that Ray has told us in the past that she has definite instructions instructions how to get into his account in the event of his being unable to.

Per Ray's daughter, a few minutes ago:
He’s doing alright. Still on the ventilator but more alert and making slow progress with the lungs. I’m on my way to see him now.

Re: Light at the end of the tunnel: the vaccine

It will be interesting if, for the sake of argument, China develops a vaccine first. Will we (US) try to license the formula so we can make it here? Will we say no - not good enough - we gotta have our own? Will there be multiple competing vaccines? We will presumably need 7 billion doses assuming e...

Re: A question about pit bull dogs

Dogs kill people and yes, pit bulls kill people. Let's be clear - I would not own one and I would be leery of my neighbor if they owned one. And, let's face it - some pit bull owners keep them for the same reason that some drive a Ferrari - it shows the rest of the world how tough and manly they are...

Re: A question about pit bull dogs

No - I'm "harping on fatalities" because those are the numbers which are readily available. I'm not denying the seriousness of dog bites and I accept that pit bulls have more - much more - than their share of responsibility. But for most of us, something else will get us long before a pit bull will;...

Re: A question about pit bull dogs

At the risk of being accused of flogging a dead horse let's go with some numbers. There are 89.7 million dogs in the US (2017 figures) . That's not a peer-reviewed source but it sounds reasonable to me. According to dogbites.org pit bulls make up 8% of the US dog population . That seems high to me b...

Re: In This Era Of COVID and Trump - Just What The Doctor Ordered

In its studies, J&J found those who got the drug had a rapid reduction in the severity of their thinking, although the results didn't differ in a statistically significant way from patients given a placebo. The only thing I can conclude from that is that it's a real example of the placebo effect. I...

Re: A question about pit bull dogs

To use your own terminology, (expletive deleted) off BSG. I never said that the injuries or deaths of anyone is anything less than tragic. Do NOT put words into my mouth. More recent statistics from WEMJ for the period 2008 to 2015 - the most recent I could find in a peer reviewed journal - put horn...

Re: A question about pit bull dogs

Yes, there are tragedies when pit bulls kill and injure people. According to the National Weather Service, 49 people a year, on average, die from lightning strikes. A Wilderness and Environmental Medicine Journal article counted 186 fatal dog attacks (all breeds, not just pit bulls) for the 12 year ...

Re: What Some People Won't Do To Avoid Paying Rent

I saw the Mail story but didn't notice that it happened in those shark rich Arkansas waters. Yes: in the Mail, grammar, spelling and facts are often - to use Kellyanne's word - alternative. But I've noticed in the comments to political stories, that the usual knee-jerk "I wish we had someone like Tr...
