Re: Eye candy. Just because.

Oh BSG, your post above has me gasping in a paroxysm of desire. It has been too long. That picture has me salivating at the very idea of at least 3, maybe more, friends gathering around a table in an orgy of gluttony. It has been four long months since I shared a dining table with anyone. Thanksgivi...

A small victory for civility

Maybe the presidential debate this Thursday will actually be informative, in some manner. The rules committee has announced there will be a mute button used to stifle talking over the other guy. I watched a little of the first debate, None of the dueling town halls last week. But I am gonna catch th...

Re: Who would you prefer to be the master

A person who earns $50 thou per year, after taxes, and spends 40, is certainly better off than the person who earns 150 thou and spends 160. But the lure of credit is based on the assumption that the one earning 150 is gonna earn 180 next year--and many do. Eventually they don't. The expectation is ...

Re: Enough to make me weep...

Gob, I share your pain. For many years I carried in my billfold a clipping of a 'help wanted' classified ad in the Paris Herald Tribune from Black Star for a dark room worker and I knew I probably did not have enough talent to qualify for emptying the wastebaskets. I recently put up a print of 'Walk...

Re: Who would you prefer to be the master

Who would I prefer? Me. [dear reader, make the mental jump to include yourself as 'me'] Those with other preferences IMNSHO, choose so because they recognize their own limitations, or because they want to limit their own responsibility for their actions.

Re: The Oh So Tolerant Hard Leftist SF Folk

I have always wondered why 'Freedom of Speech" is so often conflated to mean "You must publish my stuff at no cost to me." As I understand it Twitter and Facebook and php Plan B are private organizations and, by the rights recognized in the first amendment to the constitution, are free to NOT publis...

Thank you Econoline! I now have her first: Joan Baez and also Farewell, Angelina. Just what I was looking for. "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" in German yet, was a complete welcome surprise.

Re: I am sick!

With some coughing and sneezing an runny nose I went thru some fear and even panic, wondering, last weekend. No fever. I have age, blood type, pre-exsisting conditions, all against me. Then the next morning paper had an article on early symptoms, before the fever. The leading indicator described was...

Re: Trump for the win in November.

The presidential campaign seems to have been going on ever since POTUS was sworn in in front the huuggge crowd, like now one has ever seen before. That's too long. But now we have mission creep in the actual vote. I got my ballot in the mail two weeks ago. So now the actual voting will go on for wha...

As one who recently was overwhelmed by the separate deaths of two of the closest members of my family. No. they could not have phrased it better. The way it is said can never come close to transmitting, communicating the terrifying, terrible emotional load of the sudden death. What one says under th...

Any Joan Baez fans?

My cable tv provider blesses me with four different public television stations. But it seems all of them run Brit costume dramas or fund raisers on Sunday nite. Tonite one of them from New Jersey had a long special on Peter, Paul and Mary. I had it running in the background while I read some other s...

Re: Thoughts on the 2020 Tour de France

Yes, I wear a helmet. But traditional cap taught important datum about reality--common sense can be wrong. In the typical racer-biker position, the cap will get blown off your head if you ride with the bill DOWN! I still walk around with my Campy cap. I guess that makes me a nobody and that's ok. sn...

Re: Thoughts on the 2020 Tour de France

American culture continues to conquer the world.

Not enuff that the whole world now wears blue jeans. I just went over to the official TdF web page, then to the clothing for sale. Lots of caps, but they are ALL BASEBALL caps.

But I know even less about Cricket or football (American or the real football game) All I know about American football is that if a foot intentionally touches the ball, you have indicated you don't want it any more--oh yes, one other thing the football is not a ball.

Re: 2020 Presidential Polls and Projections

Gob your bewilderment that entire states could go to Trump reflects your ignorance of the arcane details of the USA presidential election system. Don't feel bad, Hillary's team got it wrong too. The fundamentals go to the Electoral College system, which is controlled by the state legislators. The GO...
