Re: In FIFA terms, an own-goal then
Maj Gen'l Sir, I hate those 'peel-off' tops on ordinary canned goods. I much prefer to use my own traditional can opener. For a typical can of Goya black beans I now have to use a very large channel lock pliers to grasp that tab and rock the tool toward the center of the can while holding the can ve...

And now the MAGA guy wants to sue 60 minutes for the interview?! He says the new owners of CBS are worse than the old one. He was SOOO slandered by this interview with the soon-to-be-former Georgia Congress critter. It is so wonderful to have a president of the USofA with such wonderful personal tas...

More of that binary thinking cited by Datsun in the Empire thread. Alot of that around. On the eleventh of September, 2001, I went out and bought a yellow Gadsden flag. When the tea party political movement used it for their symbol, I have never flown it again. Symbols only work when there is shared...

BB, I wonder about the amazing ability of ad agencies to book business for tv ads. There once were lots of ads on tv for distilled spirits and tobacco. The feds banned this advertising and the sales of these products increased. That looks to me as objective data that tv ads are not a good way to mak...

Re: The Empire Strikes Back
Remember this Commander -in-Chief (before he had that title) proudly said he could stand on the street in New York City, shoot random people and he would not lose a single vote. 'Course now he would have to borrow the gun from one of his Secret Service guards, because as a convicted felon, he cannot...

Sorry, but I doubt there is any boat that can go 80MPH for a thousand miles non-stop. I can imagine a boat that can go that fast for perhaps five minutes, and then continue non-stop at about 15knots for a total of a thousand miles. I know there are professional Bass Fishing boats that will do a sust...

All you guys above, thank you. This all is something I could never understand or comprehend on my own. It is really nice to sit at the feet of those who know music much more than I do or even can. I like Hillary Hahn, but now I like her stuff even more because I understand more about what she is doi...

"And no, I do not believe in due process in war. How would that have worked? It would have given the entire German army due process. How do you think that would have turned out" It turned out just like it does here in the USofA. A few were hanged. Many got a slap on the wrist. Some were hustled back...

The Sec of War's first, primary military experience was as a butter-bar Lt at Gitmo. Guarding and protecting the worst of the worst.
That is where he formed his gut understanding of military law.

" let's just say that I''ve never heard of people volunteering to become slaves or acquiring a life-threatening illness". Ever hear of a product called 'cigarettes? When I was in the fourth grade, 1949, long before the surgeon general ever put his warning on a pack of cigs, we commonly called them '...

A fine group of upstanding white Christian Americans in Oklahoma City on 19 April 11995 killed 167 people, injured 684 and destroyed $652 million in real estate. Tell me more about these dangerous immigrants the Trump administration granted asylum in April of this year. At the same time the flood of...

Yes, The Big Lie seems to be the default response of everyone in the Trump Cabinet. Meanwhile (as my favorite late niter would say. . . ) The latest from Fred Reed is typical of his older stuff, but still interesting. A brief quote: America kept the border open for over sixty years when it could hav...

I am very curious about the people who seem to be so certain about the actions that must follow true love of their country, the USofA. I go to meetings of the American Legion where we begin meeting by reciting the pledge of AllegianceI, and the preamble to the constitution of the American Legion, wh...

Alas time marches on. After I posted above I went looking for Assenmacher Bicycles and discovered I need not make a pilgrimage to Schwartz Creek Michigan, because Matt sold out to Trek. I knew he was basically turning the business over to his daughter. I wonder if Trek now sell a tandem bike with sq...

I think this 'certificate' is not issued by an organization that actually a part of the federal government. I do know that there is a real military medal that is given to anyone who served one day (or more) on active duty military service during a period that started during the mid 60's and continue...

BB, it could aways be a sign of my growing senility, but I seem to remember some of your posts back in Cafe Darte that indicated you loved your bicycle. I know I loved my Assenmacher. That is why the frame still sits in my living room, awaiting the day when I lovingly rebuild it. It will have click ...

So now Lindsey (nice legs) Halligan is out of a job because of some silly legal technicallity. I think she should be put in charge of the project to court martial Senator Mark Kelly, US Navy, Retired, for sedition for telling the troops to obey the law. What a strange thing to tell the troops. snail...
