Re: Neanderthal Thinking

Heard a story today with the headline: Covid virus saved my life. She was at a certain age, not ready for AARP membership, but not a kid either. She had a slight cough that just did not get better so last spring her family pressured her into getting a Covid test from her PCP. It came back negative, ...

Re: Flat Tire

I believe the Iditarod started today and for the first time it does not end in Nome. It would have been a nice historical gesture if each sled included a package of Covid vaccine.

Re: Truly Inspirational Song Performance....

What is the date on this performance? I must be pre-covid. It all reminds me of when I arrived on the East coast and discovered that I must quickly learn the basics of a game I assumed was played on a field, by girls. In my ignorance as an immigrant from the mid-West, my social standing was down the...

Re: battery technology Air Activation?

Thank you Mr. Guy. Looking around on that site, I learned that they recommended wait 5 minutes with new batteries, and take them out of the device before going to sleep. Use a small magnet to handle the batteries. All these things are not in the literature that came with the aids. And it is very tri...

battery technology Air Activation?

I have recently adopted a new addition to my wardrobe--hearing aid behind each ear. Now I can hear the clicking of the turn signal in my car. And the radio is running at half the volume I used to use. They are not 'rechargeable' Uses a tiny 312 battery which is about the size of a baby aspirin. All ...

Re: 'Religious' whackos

To go back to the post that started this all. I do know the prime cause as a personality, unlike those who advocate process theology or agnosticism. I use the verb in the second sentence, fully aware of all the nuance and implications. This is not intended as a cause for disputation. It is my own NS...

Re: Gender reveled too much

Tacky? Premature? Inaccurate? This all serves to remind me that I am an arrogant old fool. I think these reveal parties are hubris and driven by a selfish expectation that they will open a flood gate of presents for the infant to come sometime. I became a father at the beginning of the general abili...

Guin, you're ok. I would never say about you, specially when you are not present, "God bless your little heart". Rubato, I think you re confusing education and job training. Interesting how, here in the land of opportunity, in the last year so many jobs that do not pay a living wage, are now declare...

I have no idea what it indicates, but many visual posts here, over the years and recently, show up on my machine as tiny squares around a question mark. I just live with it.

Re: 'Religious' whackos

There are various taboos. "Swearing" is something lawyers see regularly as people swear to tell the truth. Swearing in general is perhaps the flip side of cursing. I have to also work 'blasphemy' in there as well. They all depend on a shared belief system to be effective. Obsenity, vulgarity, are co...

Re: What is the useful life of military trainer aircraft?

I think they put carbon-fiber wings on all the B52s--that is a major overhaul.

Back when those birds were the latest and greatest I loved to see movies the B-52 taking off. It looked like their wings were flaping. I wondered if the tips ever brushed the runway.

What is the useful life of military trainer aircraft?

I just read a news story of an Air Force jet that went down over Alabama about sundown yesterday, killing the two experienced pilots aboard. The plane was a T38. The last one left the factory 49 years ago. I would expect a trainer to do more takeoffs and landings than other similar military planes. ...

Gob, go to an apple store and ask to see the Big Sur operating system on a big screen. Some of the pictures do strange things with angle of view or perceived scale, or color. But most are just gorgeous.

If you are happy with Bill Gates legacy, I say good on you.

Gob, do you have an Apple computer with the 'Big Sur' operating system? I just got mine and the wall paper is amazing. If you have not seen it, go to an Apple store and just look. Fantastic and beautiful shots of Big Sur California. I visited it once on a brief business trip. The area is noted for t...

Re: Let it snow, let it snow let it snow!

I too enjoyed the riverwalk during a business conference. Conference over, I sat at a table on the Riverwalk, watching the boats go by and listening to free music from a nearby hotel. Nobody ever nagged me to buy more as I sat there and read on my Kindle and enjoyed the scenery. specially the buildi...

Re: Getting vaccinated

I got the Pfizer in a mass event conducted at three state vehicle inspection sites. There were twenty teams doing the shots where I got it. But no evidence that the state did any plans for the obvious need to do it all again in 21 days. State enlisted FEMA to help do it again next week, at the Dover...
