Re: What is the useful life of military trainer aircraft?
I was stationed near an Army Air Force depot maintenance squadron at Fort Benning, in the 1950’s. They would rebuild damaged aircraft that were in really bad shape. The joke was they’d rebuild from a name tag if that is all that was left. Getting a new aircraft required a Congressional approval. Reb...

Well, I’m back from lurking for a while. I’ll try to be cordial. Guin, I don’t understand your “Beetlejuice” comment. Please explain.

It’s 8:40
Can’t resist one last post. When I first wandered around here there were messages telling me that the legacy of this place was to argue, and that it was intense, more like a fight club. I did get knocked around as a Newbie when I had the audacity to start a thread, or to ask questions about how this...

User-delivered Booting at Plan B 12/3/2020
Thank God! This is the last unfinished draft I’ve been able to finish before the deadline. I’m sorry if I’m being repetitious and rushed, but I won’t be able to kick you anymore after 9PM PST. You guys have a unique culture which I probably don’t understand, but here’s my interpretation of recent ev...

Plan B Definitions
A stranger is someone who got the URL of the site somehow and opens it on his screen. He has approached the castle window (his computer screen) which opens to an aquarium. This allow him to get a view of the goldfish (the usernames on the posts he sees). He is now an aspirant who registers at the si...

I'll be here to post one more day, Scooter. Get it out of your system. You win, for now.

The word from the fight club.
Yeah, I know, it is all my fault. It is also my fault that all of you are being inconvenienced. As long as it is for a good cause.

Re: On Mentoring Here
I watch, in wonder, that only Joe Guy has anything to say about this. Thanks for your effort, Joe. I hope it doesn't happen to you, or anyone else, for that matter.

Re: On Mentoring Here
Joe Guy, thanks, I needed that. What I did see was people insincerely thanking him for making the classics accessible. What frosted me was being mocked for making Scooter do this, and to someone new by the way. with no one saying a word until you did. Isn't this getting in the Admin's way? I interpr...

Me being paranoid
The last poster in my PM file invented malicious cluttering in my PM file. Could that large PM have broken the queue?

Re: deleting PMs
It did work for a while, a couple of days ago, but there are some that got stuck, mostly message to and from me to test this thing out. I'm trying to do some house-cleaning before my exit to lurking. They don't take up much space, so I'll forget about house-cleaning in the PMs for now. When my wife ...

On Mentoring Here
This shows an edited post by another member with my comments inserted in it. It was a well-intentioned post from someone who will remain anonymous. I’m grateful for her/his effort, but it didn’t really solve my problems. “I and literally everyone else here have already suggested what you should do. ...

deleting PMs
I go to PMs, mark some by clicking the RH boxes, then going to the bottom to move the box content from something else to DELETE. i get back "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again." What am I doing wrong?

Re: Lurking experiment
General, long quotes from the obscure Billington are not a normal conversational tactic. I guess you enjoy the replies asking "what are you trying to say". Keep it up, though, it raises the tone here.

Decline of Customer Service Jobs
I wrote a long screed somewhere else about the effect of technology now in cutting jobs for qualified people I tried to find an email address for two major players on the Internet to give them a two-page note on how to cause that error, and the two workarounds. You just get shuttled from one proprie...
