The company I work for is now Chinese. The amount we get is fairly comparable to others in the business as they don’t want to stifle creativity as the patents have the potential to either save money or work toward competitive advantage.

It's part of the reason (IMO at least) Tump gets treated with "kid-gloves" in court: They want to limit potential avenues of appeal/appearance of unfair bias.
