Re: The Palin Phenomena

The rise of the Teabagger Palinites closely parallels the rise of the Know-Nothing (American) Party of the 1850s, particularly in its lack of organizational structure and coherent philosophy and its use of virulent nativism and fearmongering as its principal political tools. I suspect there will alw...

Re: New Forum Idea that is mine!

For the record, I never minded the Zs or the other idiosyncracies of Loca's writing style. Like I said before, it's just part of who she is, and you always know it's her talking. She's a good storyteller with a keen eye and rhythmic sense both in language and structure. No need for a corral, maybe j...

Re: Welcome to new members and things

Beer truck hadn't yet arrived when I registered. I had to make do with a half-empty bottle of Kettle One I found in the kitchen cupboard.

At least the label said Kettle One.

Re: A cold BEER upon arrival.

If you live on a damp, chilly, mold-encrusted island in the North Atlantic, yeah, I could see why you'd drink warm beer. Those of us who actually have summer know the joys of a cold brew on a hot sunny day.

Especially at the ball park.

Re: UK Petrol prices, WTF?

The last time gasoline was averaging $1/US gal or less (on the US East Coast) was early 1999. On the West Coast, it never got below $1, and was hovering around $1.02-$1.03 in the same period.

Re: Judge rules National Day of Prayer unconstitutional

Well then, what exactly is prayer? If you say it is supplication or petition for a deity's intercession, or it is praise or glorification of a deity -- which I think it is safe to say are the most commonly understood meanings -- then it is by definition a religious exercise. If you charcterize it as...

My commute is just over 1 mile. Every day is dress-down day for me (usually "business casual"), except if I have to go to court or a dep. On those days I put on the law suit and take the car.

Re: Judge rules National Day of Prayer unconstitutional

While I opersonally agree with that opinion, the courts are all over the board about prayer if no particular religion is favored/endorsed. As a legal matter I don't think that is accurate. The Supremes have been pretty clear that government action that appears to endorse religion over non-religion ...
