Re: Bias or just one ass?
Ah, yes, blame those well known communists at Nielsen Media Research. And the communist calendar, too. And communist Christmas, sneaking up like that after (??) the broadcast (???). (For the record, the prior year's broadcast was December 22, 2024.) These people are ridiculous and shameless about it...
Re: Sinners
Glad you liked it! I would also recommend Caught Stealing, which is not Oscar material but kinda fun in a fucked up way. We saw Weapons, too, which was okay but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it. Also saw One Battle After Another, which I have very mixed feelings about. Interested in seeing Trai...

....Of course, we don't pump our own gas here, but at least I can be courteous to the gas station attendant. When are youse guys gonna get wit' us and pump ya own gas already, huh? Hopefully never, for the reasons BSG mentions above and also because I'd rather not stand in the heat/cold/rain/sleet/...

In a similar vein, Spousal Unit and I were set to take a jaunt to Montreal in September. Packing the bags early on the morning of departure we check the travel documents and discover SU's passport expired the month before. After some initial swearing and recrimination, we canceled the Montreal reser...

Re: Brigitte Bardot is dead
Brigitte Bardot is dead I am very okay with that You're saying that because she was right‑wing. Yes, absolutely. She was a fascist, a bigot, a racist, a homophobe, a xenophobe, an Islamophobe, and an antisemite, and she lent her celebrity to promoting these hateful ideologies and the National Front...
Re: Sinners
It's worth a watch, but I think the point could have been made better without including vampires. I understand the metaphor the director/writer were trying to use, but I thought it was heavy handed. The music, on the other hand, was a lot of fun. Well it's not exactly subtle, but if you're going fo...
Re: Sinners
It is fundamentally a commentary on maintaining cultural identity and community in the face of external pressures. The genre is pretty much incidental. I think you'll like it.
Sinners
See it. I know it's a "horror" movie but it's really a music movie, plus the actors are all great and the story is pretty good. Could/should win an Oscar in a number of categories.

I actually love that feature. Of course, we don't pump our own gas here, but at least I can be courteous to the gas station attendant.

A little caroling to send out the year:
God rest ye, Murray Gondelman
Let nothing you dismay
Remember Chinese restaurants
Are open Christmas day
To sate us all with soup and noodles
That's our peoples' way
Oh flavors of garlic and soy
Garlic and soy
Oh flavors of garlic and soy.

Re: Political stunt? Sounds just like . . .
Threatening a lawsuit for [Dr. Evil voice] one million dollars [/Dr. Evil voice] is laughably idiotic since the contract almost certainly does not include a million-dollar liquidated damages clause for a canceled performance. Recoverable damages (if any) are limited to whatever the contract provides...

I always thought it was Abe, Max and Danny -- the Weissman bothers -- who brought Murr (Murray the Mohel) with them to do the bris.
Hope all your holidays were/are/will be joyous.

Re: Top 10 Movies
I went through the list of Academy Award nominees for Best Picture over the last 50 years. I'm still not convinced by anything in the last 25 years but there are a lot that I haven't seen. (I would have liked to, but I've been busy. Maybe I'll start catching up now.) But here are the ones I know for...

Re: Our next show
The holiday concerts are behind us now and the season is shaping up quite nicely in terms of audience growth. The Philharmonic did two shows, one at our "home" venue (sold out, 1300 tix) and one at our expansion site where we are 6 months into cultivating a whole new audience base (about 650 showed ...

Re: Top 10 Movies
I recall recommending Blue Velvet to a colleague once and she came back and said something like "I can't believe you'd enjoy such smut"; but, to each his own. I thought Blue Velvet was exceptionally good, and I don't think David Lynch ever lived up to it again. (In retrospect, it may have been the ...
