You and Gene Rodenberry.
I dunno, Roddenberry invented the flip phone and you see how long that lasted.

Re: Israel at War

Antimissile systems have been in development since World War II, they were not "Ronald Reagan's Star Wars vision." (And "Star Wars" was the derisive name given to proposed space-based weapons that would have militarized space in violation of international agreements.) The Soviet Union developed the ...

Pretty sure the OP pic is a parody, but it's not far from what Trump actually posts on his dime-store Twitter knock-off: https://static-assets-1.truthsocial.com/tmtg:prime-ts-assets/media_attachments/files/112/258/814/530/492/966/small/fcdca447b317c3a0.jpg Although honestly when I saw this the first...

Re: The Truth vs. Alex Jones

....is the real result of mass internet availability that lesser truth equals a bigger audience? I think that because the internet is everywhere, 'lesser truth' simply reaches a much bigger audience. I think a pretty substantial number of people don't actually want news and facts, they just want to...

A restaurant hosting a drag brunch got sued by anti-drag protestors for using their photos in an ad. The restaurant started off its motion to dismiss by likening the protestors and their claims to drag queens:

Re: And just like that, the bridge collapse is blamed on the browns and the gays

And the Daily Mail is reporting (yes, yes, I know - the words daily and mail and reporting should never be in the same sentence) that about half the US population do not believe the simple explanation that an out of control ship accidentally banged into the bridge supports. 45% believe in one of a ...

Re: NOW is when McCarthy chooses to find his voice?

I stand by my assessment of McCarthy from two years ago (which is the same as my assessment of McCarthy four and six years ago, since nothing has changed): Mitch McConnell and especially Kevin McCarthy are the invertebrate species of weasel that we have all always known them to be, concerned only wi...

Re: An Eclipse.... woop dee doo!

And then some adenoidal typists from Birmingham with diarrhea and flabby white legs and hairy bandy-legged wop waiters called Manuel, and then, once a week there's an excursion to the local Roman ruins where you can buy cherry-ade and melted ice cream and bleedin' Watney's Red Barrel, and then one ...

Re: An Eclipse.... woop dee doo!

BigRR , thanks for the info! We're looking for a pretty urban lifestyle with a location that allows relatively easy travel to the interior as well as along the Mediterranean coast. The spousal unit speaks Spanish and had taken a year in Barcelona during college, so with that experience I don't thin...

Re: An Eclipse.... woop dee doo!

I am looking at Malaga. Decent sized city with great weather and plenty of culture (two symphony orchestras!). But if you have other recommendations, I'm all ears. I've never been to Spain. Was planning to visit both Iberia and North Africa after law school, but life got in the way.

Re: An Eclipse.... woop dee doo!

BSG: Spain huh? Hmmm. It's a thought. After all, we have to be somewhere. As it happens, I am looking at re-locating to southern Spain for a year or so sometime in the next few years (why not?) -- probably not in time for the 2026 eclipse but very likely for the one on August 2, 2027 that will put ...

Re: An Eclipse.... woop dee doo!

In 20 years I'll be 86, so not inconceivable; I was visiting with my mom during the eclipse on Monday and she's 95. I saw the eclipse in 1970 (not total for me, but over 90% as I recall), so I won't feel deprived if I never see another. I have a cousin who actually travels the world to see total ecl...

Re: An Eclipse.... woop dee doo!

It was a mostly clear sunny day here in South Jersey until the moment the eclipse actually began, at which point, as if on cue, the clouds rolled in to obscure the entire event. We did notice a significant drop in temperature as the Sun was snuffed out though. I'll catch the next one, I guess. the t...

Re: Cigarette, Anyone?

At the time I certainly didn't appreciate the moralizing smoke Nazis who felt they had to police my personal vices -- and I guess I still don't -- but as a public health & safety issue (as well as sanitation -- remember all the cigarette butts casually tossed on the ground?) I am now glad that virtu...

Re: Cigarette, Anyone?

I blame the Democrats for the years I spent smoking. I had tried cigarettes occasionally in my "tween" years, but really got going when I was a volunteer at the county Democratic Party office during the McGovern campaign in the summer and fall of 1972, at age 14. I spent a lot time there and menthol...
