So now he's just going to make all those Terrorist Venezuelan Gang Members TM into US citizens? Can't wait til the GOP finds out we're going to have to re-apportion all the seats in the House of Representatives; suddenly a lot of existing states will be down to very few representatives. I'd wonder i...

Re: Music recommendations
I had to watch carefully to see that he was plucking or hitting a string as at the same time he was still bowing. Left-hand pizzicato is still rather unusual in works for cello, far more common for violin. As this piece shows, Ysaye was incredibly creative in his compositions while still strictly a...

Especially for BSG and Snailgate:
Eugene Ysaye, Sonata for Cello (unaccompanied), Op. 28
Timotheos Gavriilidis-Petrin, Cello
I really like the way he plays this piece.

Some great music there Sue; I especially love Cavaleria Rusticana. Cavalleria Rusticana (paired with Pagliacci) was the first opera I ever saw, and entirely by accident. I was about 15 and had taken the train into Philly one afternoon (for no reason I can remember) and was walking by the Academy of...

Everybody who was anybody, including Bill Clinton, associated with Epstein; just because people associated with him does not mean anything. There is a significant distinction between "associating" with Epstein by crossing paths in professional or "high society" settings and being his "best friend" ...

Re: Our next show
So we finished out the 25-26 season last Sunday with the sold-out "Landscapes of Italy" program (or as I was calling it, "the Beautiful Music Concert"): Verdi Overture to La Forza del Destino, Mascagni Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana, a guitar concerto by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (who taught J...

Re: Someone's Knocking on the Door....
You could say the LDS missionaries laid the foundation for my later decades of agnosticism and/or atheism. I’m sure it’s good they don’t know that knocking on my door sent me on a path to heresy. Oh, you're not a heretic; you're an apostate! (I, on the other hand, may be a heretic or an infidel, de...

Re: Someone's Knocking on the Door....
I agree with BSG. People's concern about the potential for crime has been stoked to a paranoid state (I blame Faux News and the Interwebs) and the proliferation of firearms has made the risk of knocking far higher than the risk of answering. Crime rates -- both violent and non -- are at record lows....

Unfortunately, "you guys" is often used inappropriately when the better word choice is simply "youse" (or "yinz" if in the Pittsburgh area.)

This is one of the funniest things I have ever seen, these kids are terrific. Kudos to Aspen Music Festival for documenting the real world of quartets.

Today it's at $3.919. An increase of more than 46% in the 60 days since Trump started his idiotic war with Iran. Isn't it today the date by which he has to ask Congress for authority to continue criming in the Persian Gulf?

We are in the middle of celebrating two and a half centuries of ridding ourselves of the British monarchy. The irony of the King of England urging Americans to embrace democracy and diversity is laying pretty thick.

Is anyone else annoyed by the correspondents frothing endlessly about the Dinner non-incident just because they were there? Yes. As a former cops & crime journalist I am appalled. How many more personal experiences do we need about journos, B-listers and other nonentities diving under the table? We...

And I think I can speak for two of them, Sue and Shit Head. I already know what they would say: Literally your worst attribute (aside from your disgusting racism) is how you constantly imagine you "know" what others would think or say, whether it's "liberals" or "leftists" or Scooter or me. I am no...

Wanton lust and out-of-wedlock pregnancy inevitably results in suicide. (Not sure how to fit witches and demons into that, but I'm sure Beckwith will find a place.)Burning Petard wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2026 1:11 pmIf this is what the opera Carman means in Indiana, I wonder what they do with Madame Butterfly?

Re: Indiana Lt. Gov. calls HS percussion band "demonic"
This guy Beckwith is either a total idiot or suffering from some kind of psychosis, although both may be true. Also has never seen Carmen and has no idea what it's about, obvs. This could still be an excellent teaching opportunity to get people acquainted with Bizet and one of the most beloved opera...

Non-Christians probably shouldn't bother themselves about it since they don't believe in either side of the argument. Whew! In a related story, I wonder if the IRA (Official) should have copyright on the letters IRA as against the Provos Pretty sure communists don't accept copyright as a thing, but...

I remember when he was the assistant and principal guest conductor for the BSO. He was at Tanglewood a lot during the summer I spent there in 1973, but I don't think he ever conducted the youth orchestra (we did get Seiji Ozawa once tho, which was v. exciting). I think MTT may have been conducting t...
