Re: Rock v. hard place
If someone was holding a bazooka to my head, had a noose around my neck and I was clamped into a guillotine and the only thing I could do to save myself was vote for Newt or Mitt for president, I'd choose Mitt, which would actually be a vote against Newt rather than for Mitt.

Re: Proof of Citizenship
Hey quad!!!!!
Just wondering if the G man has provided you with the "proof" you requested regarding what you really wrote at the CSB back when you claimed that a voter ID is proof of citizenship.
Oh... I see.
He did, but if you were to post it, you'd be proven wrong....
again.

Re: Where In The H#ll Are The Hen And The Gob?
LoCAtek's comment is quite a shock to me. I have never seen anything more vicious and hateful posted by anyone. You might want to take a little time and think about what you wrote and why you wrote it, LoCAtek. Try to put yourself in the Hen & Gob's place instead of attempting to come up with an exp...

Re: And Then There Were Four
The reason that Perry would never have been the Republican Presidential candidate is that Republicans decided they didn't want to another George 'Dubya' Bush in office.

Plant native (non water-intensive) vegetation, Joe! This has been SOP in the SF Bay are for over 30 years! :nana The plants I'm speaking of are in pots and usually are fine with "normal" rain from Nov thru Feb. Everything in the ground is fine, except I have watered hydrangeas that were drooping.

Re: Finally...The Rains Are Here!
I can't speak for LJ, but my concern is the necessity to continue watering my yard in order to prevent numerous plants from dying. Normally, I would not have needed to water anything after November 1st. And more importantly, we've had a record number of "Spare the Air" days in which you cannot burn ...

Re: Presidential Pretender
Let's take a hypothetical person with dark skin - a so-called "Negro" - a recent immigrant from, say, Nigeria, about whom it could truthfully be said that neither he nor any of his ancestors had ever been victims of American discrimination. Should that person rightly be able to avail himself of the...

I'm very sorry to hear that Barnum is ill. It's always difficult to lose a member of the family.

Re: "Family" Issues
Most eggregiously, our Federal government (combined with the state governments) pays more welfare money and non-monetary benefits to a single mother than it pays to an intact family in the same economic circumstances. As a result, single parenthood has become a plague on our society, with upwards o...

Re: Protesting Voter ID Laws
Is there some reason to believe "the integrity of the voting process" is under threat? Is there a genuine problem with non-citizens registering to vote? How would a photo ID guarantee citizenship of the voter any more than the initial voter registration process? It's just bullshit. I believe requir...

Re: Protesting Voter ID Laws
Most of the time, absentee ballots aren't even counted -- it's just not worth the effort unless the vote is so close that absentee votes could swing it one way or the other. If you really want your vote to not count, vote absentee. That doesn't sound likely to me. The only possible reason not to co...

Re: Protesting Voter ID Laws
You do that at the time you register to become a voter. Why should you have to prove it all over again every time there's an election? As a practical matter alone, in busy (read "urban") polling stations, it's likely to cause significant delays and (surprise!) discourage voting. Just the process of...

Re: Protesting Voter ID Laws
I've lived in some of the largest cities and metro areas in the country, and not once have I had to show ID to use a credit or debit card, do most banking, or visit the doctor. I haven't "cashed" a check in some time, but I don't show ID for that either - even if I go inside the bank for the transa...

It does appear to be what you say. There are other ways to verify eligibility to vote besides a photo ID.Scooter wrote:It's never been about stopping voter fraud. It's all about trying to put roadblocks in the way of people who are unlikely to vote Republican.

Protesting Voter ID Laws
As it happens every year on Martin Luther King Day, there are hundreds of protests going on around the country. One that I found interesting is going on in South Carolina today. The protest is against Voter ID Laws, read about it here . The law passed, but not yet enacted in South Carolina and a few...

Re: Semper Fi Pissin' Idiots!
That's not the problem Joe, the problem is what these guys did. Are you saying what they did would've been okay if it wasn't made public? In other words, anything is legal just as long as you don't get caught? Not at all, although the way I phrased it may have come across that way. My point is that...

Re: Semper Fi Pissin' Idiots!
The despicable acts of soldiers at war are in no way acceptable, although we know they happen more often than we will ever realize. As I wrote here once not long ago, we train them to kill and then we condemn them for killing. The problem with this particular incident is that, as rubato mentioned bu...
