I get the same place as LJ. Not a surprise, being in the same timezone.

Re: Captured sailors
These guys are the evolution of my old Reserve parent command. Back in 1999-2003 I was in an Inshore boat unit (IBU-12) which was a subcommand of NCWG-1 (Naval Coastal Warfare Group 1), which is now Coastal Riverine Group 1, out of San Diego. The Inshore Boat units were decommissioned and became squ...

Re: first records
I never bought a record; cassette tapes were the thing when I was that age. But the first album that became "mine" was an LP. My Mom was tossing all her 1960s and 70s LPs (as well as a bunch of my Dads) because she didn't want us kids being influenced by "Devil Worship" rock music. The hardest stuff...

Re: Well, I Didn't Win The Powerball Last Night...
I heard of one Powerball or MM winner who "incorporated" and hired a lawyer to pick up the winnings, disguising the name of the actual winner. However that is apparently not legal in every State. Some States apparently require the winner be announced publicly. Most analysts recommend winners hire a ...

Hey, if they keep it up with only the visiting teams winning it'd be a Superbowl XL rematch, Pittsburgh vs Seattle.

Gee, Ray, I had the same luck as you, except my one matching number was #32. It was the first lottery ticket I'd bought in nearly 2 years.
At least around here you never have to deal with lines anymore as they've pretty much just gone with self-serve "Vending machine" type kiosks.

It has everything to do with using Internet Exploiter. If he's using IE there's nothing he can do with one mouse click. IE has no EASY function that Chrome and Firefox have for viewing ONLY the image. IE, to resize, you have to resize the whole page or use the workaround I posted here: http://www.th...

Re: I dont go there .
I'm unclear as to how throwing a literary strawman into the discussion strengthens a position that someones differing position has no substance. What was the original argument about? The Honeymooners being funny? Why it shouldn't be considered funny? Why it's a poor role model for modern social comm...

Re: Good advice in any language
OK, true, you can expand/contract the whole page with Ctrl-Scrollwheel. That works pretty much the same in each browser. I was referring to just the image itself. When expanding the image to be readable, if you expand the whole page the image starts to truncate based on screen resolution (that's due...

Re: team before self
When I was forced to play soccer as a kindergartner I followed my own 3 rules: 1) Get as far away from the other kids as possible. 2) Avoid the ball as much as possible. 3) If the ball does end up running into your feet, kick it away as fast as possible. Those rules pretty much sum up my life, actua...

IE doesn't allow to expand images natively. The "Show Image" menu option is only to load images that haven't been loaded yet (for example, if you "stop" the page from loading before the images finish, you can load them individually. Or if you have image download disabled). FireFox and Chrome both le...

I realize it's for a good cause, (assuming this isn't a scam organization; I haven't checked them out) but that insipid ear worm 1-877-cars4kids commercial is driving me mashugana... I was hoping that they'd stop after the holidays, but noooooo ... :arg Likewise. Except here it's been 3 years of it...

Re: Freedom of Speech, Not For Her
It's a private evangelical establishment. Freedom of speech doesn't apply. If she wants to teach religious tolerance, an evangelical college isn't the place (it should be taught, but evangelicals are some of the least religiously tolerant people I've ever met). In any case, you can be fired from pre...

We called them "times tables" when I was a kid. That is, in the 80s. And that was at a highly regarded Catholic grade school. We learned them in 2nd or 3rd grade. I hated them. Anything that was rote memorization made no sense, which added to my problems in mathematics later in life when you needed ...

I don't watch sitcoms at all. Last one I tried to watch consistently was cancelled quickly (Better Off Ted), and that was over 5 years ago. They kept bouncing it around the schedule and preempting it, making it hard to follow. I did check out a couple more since but I haven't found any I didn't thin...

Re: Welcome to 2016.
New Years Eve is one of those days I don't leave the house. Drunks on a normal day are bad enough.
Someone down the street is having a blast of a time though, and it's still almost 6 hours until midnight here. Hopefully the ballistic arcs don't come down on my property again.
