Re: Believe It Or Nuts

I have been driven by my preferred search service (Yahoo) to reconsider my attempted non-participation with Google. I believe that Yahoo search still uses Bing. As much as Google has gone downhill in blurring the ever increasing ads with ever worsening search results, it still is much better than B...

Farewell to a transcendent star

Pele was one of the few transcendent stars, well known even in this soccer-clueless country, and revered and appreciated on every populated continent. Maybe the greatest ambassador of any sport ever. https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/29/football/brazil-pele-soccer-died-intl-latam-spt/index.html?fbclid=IwA...

Re: Where were you on your 21st birthday?

Was at a Gathering of Eagles, the race was bad for me, or as is often the case, it was good until it wasn't. The party that evening was nice, even if it wasn't "for" me, and I didn't go overboard. So, yes, I remember it clearly.

Re: Jan 6 Committee issues final report

This is not a both-sides issue. The Republicans -- and their House Leader in particular -- are wholly responsible for the dearth of GOP committee members. Pelosi rejected Republican appointees "after they had struck the deal". Huge mistake by Pelosi, and as BigRR has been pointing out, this decisio...

Re: Jan 6 Committee issues final report

The January 6 commission did a good job of uncovering what happened that day. Unfortunately, it was such a partisan effort that relatively few people paid attention beyond those who avidly despise Trump and news junkies. The commission was made up of 7 D's, including Schiff who is among the biggest ...

Re: Proper sport controversy.

The coin flip or drawing lots to see who won the contest was stupid, absolutely. And yet, the MOTU of soccer had this stupid rule for quite some time. So, we cannot trust a sport that is so willing to have such an absurdity. The penalty kick method is better than a coin flip but only marginally so. ...

Re: Proper sport controversy.

Okay, the current method is better than the brain-dead flipping a coin. Better (best) system would be first one to score in overtime wins. It is difficult to score so this makes way more sense than the extra periods. If no score within 30 minutes of extra time, start pulling players, one every 10 mi...

Re: Proper sport controversy.

The ref missed a number of fouls both sides and both ways (calling fouls that didn't exist, not calling fouls that did). Since France's defense seemed to be based around constant fouling and daring the ref to call them all. Like Argentina, England generally outplayed France and should have won their...

Re: Proper sport controversy.

World Cup finale was one for the ages. Controversy, not so much, though plenty of referring to complain about as usual. Glad they have some video review of key plays to reverse the worst of the blown calls.

So I was trying to translate it with the sexual connotation (as opposed to the diapers meaning) and hit on celibate which, as you say, has almost the same meaning as chaste.
And for many, continent. ;)

Re: If a gay couple asks you to bake a wedding cake, bake them two

The wedding cake case defense was artistic expression and religious freedom (both based in the 1st amendment). SCOTUS determined that the Colorado commission on discrimination had been hostile with respect to religion and the case was remanded where the record appears to have ended (i.e., settlement...

Re: Brittney Griner has been released from Russian detention

Happy for Griner that she is released. Clearly she was moved ahead of others due to her celebrity status and domestic political calculations. The deal was terrible as in terribly one-sided and handed a huge win to Putin. Dozens of Americans remain held beyond any reason in a number of countries. Bec...
