Re: NOW is when McCarthy chooses to find his voice?
I have just heard on NPR that Johnson has offered MT Greene (R-GA) a position as Advisor to the Speaker because she has been saying mean things about him. I think he has just booted himself up to a 9.95.

Re: The Juice has expired
I ran a lab dealing with environmental samples, analyzing them for toxic metals and PCBs and pollutants of all types. Because samples and testing results could be used in prosecutions against those who contaminated ground or rivers or marine waters or air, we had to have very strict chain-of-custody...

Havana Syndrome
For years now the prevailing wisdom has been that Havana Syndrome is really only mass hysteria in a new format and possibly just a new vehicle for lawsuits designed to get USG payouts for frivolous claims. I'm normally cautious when I see this sort of stuff on the intertubes but this has, at least o...

Nailed it, Sue! Having said that, if I were forced to pick between McCarthy and Mike Johnson I think I'd choose McCarthy. On a 1 to 10 scale of odiousness Johnson is a 9.9 (TFG has a permanent claim to the 10-spot here) while McCarthy is only a 9.5.

Re: And just like that, the bridge collapse is blamed on the browns and the gays
And the Daily Mail is reporting (yes, yes, I know - the words daily and mail and reporting should never be in the same sentence) that about half the US population do not believe the simple explanation that an out of control ship accidentally banged into the bridge supports. 45% believe in one of a n...

I recall the last eclipse when Trump went outside and peered up at the sun. I wonder how these guys know when the eclipse would be? I know, they listen to the scientists who did the calculations of where and when. I have yet to hear of the Trumpites who 'did their own research' to find out how to se...

There was a Guardian piece about this a couple of weeks ago. A bit more detail than the MSN piece lib quoted.

Re: Cigarette, Anyone?
Both my parents smoked when I was kid and I was fervently against it. Then in grad school I fell in with a dope-smoking crowd and in those days we used to mix resin with cigarette tobacco and roll a big joint and pass it around. The dope smoking phase passed quickly enough - lasted maybe a year at t...

I read enough Arabic to know that the last word (i.e., leftmost: كيتي ) in Joe's title is 'kitty' or at least a transliteration thereof. I can't read the rest.

Re: Ignorance of the Law IS a Defense?
My recollection - and possibly I am confusing this with another case - is that she was genuinely confused about her situation thinking that she had 'paid her debt to society' which is why she submitted a provisional vote. We can argue that the law should be changed (should ex-felons be allowed to vo...

So do you have to go 365 (366 in a Leap Year) days a year to get a full time pass? That's me fucked. Mind you I think I'll have pretty good company.

Re: The Truth vs Alex Jones
Alex Jones is required to pay $1.5 billion as a result of his insane theories about Sandy Hook etc. Now I am not in favor of debtors' prison but I am quite willing to make exceptions. Jones should be locked up until that amount is paid and, I think, with some sort of incentive/reward scheme to make ...

God I miss the early 1970s. They were like the 1960s but later.. . . one of my hobbies is the collecting of old books. I have a set of encyclopedias from the early 1970s.

Reminds me of the time Kim Jong Il (K J Un's daddy) went golfing for the first time and got (someone will correct me if I am wrong) something like eleven holes-in-one - which we have to concede is pretty good for a beginner.

CP - plenty of traffic lights on roundabouts in England these days. I shall be driving round some of them in April / May.
