Re: 11 Step Kids Program

A little bit overstated, but some of them are true -- in particular number 11. But I wouldn't trade the kisses and the hugs and the snuggles (which they *do* grow out of too) for all the new sofas or CD players in the world.

Re: Baptism-lite

Well put RB --- the point isn't to take christianity out of the service but to make the service accessible to more by moderning the language and the format. It's something every church does on a somewhat regular basis. The Episcopal Church of the US in 1983 "modernized" their Book of Common Prayer t...

Re: Parenting - Put Up or Shut Up

I generally agree with Andrew -- this mother cares more about herself, and the "status" she gains as a result of her children's excellence, than she cares about her children and their development and human beings. The method the "chinese" mother promotes may produce excellent scholars, but it takes ...

Ardy, I'm so sorry, the devastation and loss is just overwhelming. The tennis folks are also pitching in for relief -- special day on Sunday, prior to the start of the Australian Open: http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/news/articles/2011-01-13/201101131294889066250.html Tennis superstars Roger Fed...

Teenage years, that's lucky! My seven-year-old is convinced that as a first-grader he knows everything about everything, and should be treated accordingly. It's actually funny if you don't live with it day in and day out.

Balderdash.

Political activism, masquerading as law.
In case I wasn't clear, that decision was handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court. Still think its balderdash?

Congrats grandpa!

CP sometimes very large babies end up in NICU because their size makes it difficult for them to maintain body temps at first My godson was 10.+ and was there for his first few days.

Daisy, I agree -- except one point --- surgery is *not* the easy way out. It takes the same commitment to losing weight as without surgery. And if you screw up and eat the wrong things the consequences are even more dire than if you hadn't had surgery. You also completely do without some things - li...

Didn't you learn to use an extra diaper, just for that purpose? Cover the fountain and you don't get peed-upon!

Re: Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot

Condemnation of political rhetoric that implies violence is an acceptable political solution should be non-partisan. If we can't agree on that, then we might as well give up.

Miles, it is not proper flag etiquette to keep it flying 24/7 unless it is illuminated. Otherwise, it is proper to raise and lower at sunrise and sunset.

Shakespeare in real life. Sarah Palin in the role of Henry II and Gabby Giffords as Thomas a Becket -- that "meddlesome" priest. In March last year, Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman who was shot in the head in Tucson around lunchtime on Saturday, was interviewed on the MSNBC news channe...

I thought it may be a good idea for them to start doing it ,dales. Michele Obama got ripped up one side and down the other when she went to Spain earlier this year, for not spending her travel and entertainment dollars here in this country. And there are plenty of opportunities for foreign travel w...

What a horrible tragedy and an absolute disgrace. Also killed in the shooting, U.S. District Court Chief Judge John Roll --- a Bush I appointee, who had received death threats when he certified an immigrants civil rights action in 2008 or 2009.

Accidental cell call causes SWAT team ruckus at middle school I do not won a cell phone, but last time I checked it's illegal (at least in NY and many other states) to use it while driving. So shut the F***ing thing off when yo get in the car. It is illegal to use a hand-held device. If you are han...
