Re: Tennis-ball thrower for dogs...

You must watch out for pets with plastic bags. They have been known to get inside them and suffocate. Unfortunately most pets can't read the "THIS BAG IS NOT A TOY" warning.

Re: What's a throttle body.?

They make spray cleaners for the throttle body that will clean the throttle butterfly area in the throttle body. I've only needed to clean a couple in my career. They were sticking in the closed position. When the butterfly let go, the car would lurch forward. You don't want to get that cleaner on t...

Re: Tennis-ball thrower for dogs...

Mrs Mc was given a tennis ball thrower as a door prize at one of her dog training club gatherings. I said "Oh, it's an atlatl". See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spear-thrower Unfortunately one of her dogs chewed it up before she got a chance to try it out. It has a lack of plastic in its diet, and...

Re: Where were you on your 21st birthday?

I guess my 21st was not all that memorable. I googled to see what day of the week it was. It was a Sunday. Kansas was pretty much "dry" on Sundays 50 years ago, so I doubt I went out drinking. By then I had given up on my girlfriend of the previous 2-1/2 years, so I had probably spent that weekend p...

Mrs Mc grew up on a farm where they raised and butchered chickens for the freezer by the dozens. We now buy boneless chicken breasts at $2.79/lb. They were $1.79 not long ago. She says "I didn't go to college for seven years (off and on) to ever have to kill and pluck another chicken". They also rai...

Since I've been in every state but HI and ME, I was surprised to get only 168. Granted some states were very short visits just so I could say I've been in them. ND and LA come to mind.

I think this is something we already know, but it's good to see it in print (if you subscribe AT $1 a week or have a monthly free NYT article available). https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/09/28/world/europe/russian-soldiers-phone-calls-ukraine.html?campaign_id=190&emc=edit_ufn_20220929&instan...

Re: Dog Breed opinions/observations?

Mrs Mc's research into good natured dogs caused her to get a Rough (Lassie variety) Collie. That was 13 years ago. The next year she got another one. They both competed in agility for many years, until age caused them to have to slow down. Those, of course, are large dogs, so they are not recommende...

Consider that you won't be likely to find a RAV 4 that was wrecked 10 years ago that didn't have its doors sold nine years ago. The interior has been sitting in the rain all that time.

You guys are thinking of the verb form of consort, which means to habitually hang about with someone usually to the negative opinion of others - like consorting with the enemy, as our orange ‘friend’ did with all his Russian friends. The noun form of consort is wife, husband, companion - in particu...

"Consort" sounds more like she is part of an illicit relationship. At least that's what it sounds like to me, an AmerEnglish speaking American guy.
Yeah, I couldn't agree more. Seems about right.

RIP Queen Elizabeth II LONG LIVE THE KING? Sorry, I don't feel that King Charles III is truly fit to serve, but that's the way the crown tumbles. Of course there have been others on the throne who were not nice guys. Despots, really. Henry VIII comes to mind. What do we know about Prince William, f...

This is where Mrs Mc and I spent most of last Saturday. Etzanoa had made the local papers in 2019, but I had forgotten about it until one of my customers mentioned that she was participating in a "dig" there last month. She is a senior majoring in archaeology. I only got past Arch 201, but really e...

My dad always attended his high school class reunions. He graduated in 1927. He said that his class lost more between their 50th and 55th year reunions than they had in the previous 55 years. That would be between ages 68 and 73. Those were also guys who fought the second world war.

I don't know how many times I've lost 10MM sockets, as well as 8MM and 13MM. I can work on almost anything metric with just those three sizes.

In order to see those glow under UV light, do you need the yellow glasses (sold separately)?

From the article: If punitive damages are upheld by higher courts, the Hill family and their attorneys will only get 25% of the award amount. Under Georgia law, the state gets 75% of the awards granted by the courts. The only way the plaintiffs would get the full amount of punitive damages is if the...
