Re: Cigarette, Anyone?

The only one I know for certain is a cigar bar by me; I know one of the owners, the place was grandfathered and he told me NJ is a stickler--they cannot change the foot print of anything , even the kitchen. right now it makes bar food, but why the state would care if they took some of the eating are...

Re: Cigarette, Anyone?

BSG--Interesting, I have been in Pennsylvania, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, and Nevada in the last couple of years and never noticed smoking in any bars or restaurants I frequented, so It doesn't seem to be all that widespread in those states. imagine there must be some place...

Re: Cigarette, Anyone?

To a certain extent I agree with you BSG, but I do think that if we permitted some restaurants and bars to permit smoking, all of them would not follow suit--smokers could congregate in some bars/restaurants and not others, where people who object to smoking would go. we have a couple of cigar bars ...

Re: 2024 Presidential polls and projections

Sadly, if Trump gets in, Canada will be threatened by Russia on its southern and western borders. On the brighter side, we won't be threatened by Russia, we'll be a satellite state.

Re: Cigarette, Anyone?

Gross era? I can see how you might think so, but I do kind of miss the laissez faire approach to smoking , at least in the early 70s (and to add to it, the 70s spawned the 18 year old drinking age as well). Then smoking (and other less popular acts) was more or less tolerated--my high school even ha...

Re the suicide, I am not sure it is unrelated to pain. Javert was a man who had his whole life yanked out from under him, including the beliefs he ha or his own value. As the son of a prostitute, javert prided himself on being able to transcend his low criminal nature and not be one of hem through a...

Re: Cigarette, Anyone?

I recall smoking cigarettes in high school and early college as a way to meet people; you could always approach someone on the street, boardwalk, etc. and ask for a light and it was a good way to meet women. I finally just stopped and never went back, because I tired of it. Like BSG, I never became ...

Re: Arise citizens!

BP--I am a big fan of the stage show Les Miserables (I even appeared in a community theater/local college production as the opera singer a number of years back), but my problem with the film is what BSG alluded to--casting was more for acting ability, not singing ability. For me, the primary draw fo...

Re: the incredible non-shrinking coffee can

That has been a marketing strategy since the 60s--using the same packages with less contents; I recall seeing a legend like "This is packaged by weight, not volume. Settling may occur." It's a way to dupe the people, since the assumption is you're getting the same amount as before (eventually this w...

Re: Israel at War

Because at this point Israel is just creating more (new, future) Palestinian terrorists faster than it's killing armed Hamas militants. And also terrorists who will be much less likely to compromise and ultimately end this conflict. Sure, there are some in Hamas (and Israel for that matter) who wou...

Re: He is Risen!

Much like Pilate tried to placate the mob by merely beating Jesus nearly to death, the judge “relented” by lowering the bond required to a paltry $175 million and gave Trump an additional 10 days to secure it.
Trump getting 39 lashes would be far more entertaining.

Come on Sue, you don't recall the NYPD guy after the WTC? I think I must have heard God Bless America on the news more than a hundred times.

And, of course, there was The Singing Detective.

Re: Ignorance of the Law IS a Defense?

From what I have read, the Texas law specifically requires proof that the person knew they could not vote for a conviction--it is not enough that the person voted when they were ineligible. Indeed, it appears the Texas legislature mad this requirement fairly clear, and statements were made during th...

The sad thing is that it appears that the guy has a a fairly decent voice and could do something a lot better than that ridiculous arrangement. And, even sadder, that he or someone else posted that performance.
