Re: US healthcare. Is this the reality?

Yes, mostly, in dental we have dentists who put their wards to sleep and have funny sex with them, and doctors are either heroic or always checking out the nurses. But then I get my view from network television.

Clearly, India needs a certain church from Kansas to show up at its doorstep.

Re: US healthcare. Is this the reality?

I was never suggesting that there was not an effort like this to take care of people who fall between the cracks for whatever reason. However, for the benefit of our foreign friends, this article is hardly representative of healthcare in America, even for the poor or almost poor.

Re: Bank regulation 2/3 in favour

Everyone wants some type of reform, but the average person doesn't know what will help or not, and bad reform is worse than no reform. Congress whether run by the right or left almost never gets it correct when it tries to legislate in a political storm.

Re: Arrest the pope!

There is also in the U.S. a legal doctrine -- known variously as "alter ego," "piercing the corporate veil," "sham," and probably other terms -- which enables plaintiffs to blast through the walls of the corporate form and hold liable those who are ultimately responsible for the culpable conduct. T...

Re: Arizona tightens immigration law

I don't know about the show proof of citizenship to get on the ballot (that sounds too dumb since every candidate has to do that at some point in the election), but after 15 years of waiting for the federal government to do one of its first priorities -- protecting the border -- I can be sympathetic...

Maybe in Aus. but not with our dollars. Actually, isn't that the point of insurance -- everyone pays because none of us know who is going to need it?

Re: Arrest the pope!

The problem with taking the assets, is that they are also being taken away from the innocent 99% of church goers and vast majority of priests, nuns, etc. I don't know the right answer, but the criminal courts can go after the actual wrongdoers. That may or may not include the Pope; I haven't seen en...

Re: 1 st Amendment right to watch cruelty?

My understanding of the case is similar to BigRR's. If the legislature had done a better job at defining what is animal cruelty, the statute might have been upheld. It was the broad statute that was at issue, not the content of the video. It was an 8-1 decision, so there was a strong consensus that ...

According to the wiki article (fwiw), they have recently excepted flag desecration from their free speech protection. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, of constitutional value, states, in its article 11: The free communication of thoughts and of opinions is one of the most pre...

First the damn Icelanders default on the money they owe, and just to add spite, they're now spewing ash all over their creditors. Tough lot, that bunch.
