Re: Something to ponder.

The topic of pondering how to get funds for this group seems to be stalled. One way to get this task better organized would be to set up a smaller group to discuss this topic. The place on this board where smaller groups can be found is through the topic that occurs on the top page under “FAQ-Users ...

Re: Want to buy a Gas Station?

The charging problem will be solved as the need grows larger. What isn't solved is what is to happen to all those gas station sites? Fast food outlets will take up some of the spaces, but they are already well distributed. Many old sites will just sit there empty. Perhaps they can be turned into mus...

Re: Want to buy a Gas Station?

There’s a Harris Ranch Inn on I-5, the main route from L. A. to S. F. near the town of Coalinga They’ve had a string of about fifteen charging stations for EVs in their parking lot for several years. You won’t have time to get a full charge if you stop for a meal, but there is a good hotel on the pr...

Want to buy a Gas Station? Wreak

[Yes, you can edit your own titles] The part of L. A. I live in was primarily farmland after WW II but is now completely converted to residential neighborhoods. The square street grid is laid out with major streets a half-mile apart. Most major intersections have at least one gasoline service statio...

Astrid Season 2 with English Subtitles

We finished Season 1, enjoying all of the sessions in it. (“Session” is defined here to be one of the programs included in the Season.) We did all kinds of searches for the category listed above, Season 2. We got close but not quite there. I’ll save the details for a future rant. To get this categor...

AI?

I spent many years aiding in Customer Service for a software package. It was an expensive operation, but if you didn’t do it diligently you’d lose customers to the competition. It was all done person to person, whether by phone or email. Modern customer service all seems to be done by AI, with no hu...

TV Technology Has Passed Me By

Some months ago my wife got a Roku setup for the TV without consulting me, and spent the time needed to use it without any help from me. It is how we access more TV shows, such as Astrid. We just finished the last show in the first series. There are many ways besides Roku to do these activities. Don...

Re: Another good TV Series

I'm obviously not using the "percentile" concept correcly. Maybe even not spelling it correctly. I'll find another phrase to replace it.

Re: Another good TV Series Correction

Correction to prior post. I misinterpreted what percentile means in this context. Astrid is not in the 99th percentile, which include almost everyone. She is in the 1 percentile which means very few are as bright as her. I’m afraid to edit anymore.
Edit test.

Re: Did times listed in titles of posts change from poster’s local time zone recently?

BSG, I wanted to give you the last word, but Meade intruded. I do appreciate your acknowledgement that some of the things you said earlier were unsubstantiated guesses. It is futile for us to argue about how it works based on guesses from watching it perform in our work. The only authority that shou...

Re: Did times listed in titles of posts change from poster’s local time zone recently?

"Time zone displayed defaults to UTC+11" I've logged in already, so when I logout I don't think it resets the UTC to +11, so I have no way of checking that. "At some point as you navigated around the inner workings, you must have clicked to set that option. It’s a manual process, not automatic." I d...

Re: Did times listed in titles of posts change from poster’s local time zone recently?

Most of the comments above are incorrect and/or incomplete. Rather than come up with more guesses to muddy up the water, I'll state the facts I have. At the bottom of my pages, it says "All times are UTC-08:00". That's the correct value for me, as it covers PST, which covers CA where I live. Either ...

Re: Another good TV Series

Astrid is not a 50th per centile Asperger subject, she is more like a 99th percentile subject. She is very bright, has an enormous vocabulary including arcane medical and legal terms, a large long-term memory, and great deductive ability. She keeps trying to give the detectives there (mostly male) c...

Re: The poster also known as Mike

I looked like that, 65 years ago. I was skinnier though, because I rowed racing shells up and down the Charles River. Our coach believed in lots of practice, which burns the fat off. I look the same way now, if you have a good imagination. You have to look around the 65 lbs. I've added since then.

Re: Did times listed in titles of posts change from poster’s local time zone recently?

Ex-Andy has the clue. While lurking, I didn't log in. I've been logging in now for a while. The time listings for these different logging in choices are quite different. I did see a difference, after it sunk in.

Police Suicide

There was an article on the Capitol Police, and the effect of the insurrection on them in this week’s NYT’s Sunday magazine. I’ve been looking for an explanation of why so many of them killed themselves after the insurrection. The article gives data that helps you guess, but I didn’t find a direct d...

Did times listed in titles of posts change from poster’s local time zone recently?

All times listed in the various forums seem to be in my local time zone, PST now. I seem to remember that in the past they were in the poster’s local time zone. As that varied from South Africa to CA they would jump all over the place. Or maybe in the website’s zone, which I think is Australia. Or i...

The poster also known as Mike

I asked several of you to call me by phone with PMs. My wife picked up the phone today, and asked me if I knew who this guy named Methuselah was, or what PlanB is. If you call, please use the name above, as someone else in my house may pick up the phone. We don’t usually answer calls from numbers we...
