A couple of you with whom I don't interact on Facebook might be interested to learn that I no longer have to use euphemisms like partner, better half, significant other, or similar.
Michelle and I are celebrating our second (week) anniversary today, after fourteen years together. I finally convinced her that if she could put up with me for that long, we were probably going to make it for the rest of our lives. Actually, I think it may just have been a few carats of diamond and better health insurance.![]()
In keeping with our Brady Bunch family, the wedding was in Lynchburg, Virginia, at the home of Michelle's ex-husband's ex-wife, and was attended by Michelle's ex and his fiancée, all six of our children, and all but two of our grandchildren. The marriage started out as a plan for the two of us to meet up at the courthouse, but turned into an event, complete with dresses, flowers, food, and music as family members took over. Despite the short notice, I was able to get both of my sons flown in for the event as a surprise for Michelle, with both of them showing up in the kitchen just before the actual wedding, causing several minutes of joyful tears, pretty much on everyone's part.
When the marriage celebrant (a Virginia term for JP) asked the question, "Who gives this woman?" the entire cast of kids, grandkids, and exes all shouted out in unison, "We do!" It's been a long, strange trip, with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, but we've walked the path together and will do so for as long as either of us lives.
Feel free to congratulate me if you wish - I am a very, very lucky man to have found my soulmate, the woman who, in Jerry McGuire's memorable line, "completes me."

AndyH and the lovely Michelle....
For those of you who know AndyH but haven't heard elsewhere...he posted this over at Le Chat House, and I don't think he'll mind my sharing it here:

Andy is one hell of a nice guy. I glad that sometimes nice guys do finish first.
I expected to be placed in an air force combat position such as security police, forward air control, pararescue or E.O.D. I would have liked dog handler. I had heard about the dog Nemo and was highly impressed. “SFB” is sad I didn’t end up in E.O.D.

Andy was kind enough to put a comment about this happy event up on our website, a week before it was due to happen. I didn't get round to asking him if it were to be made public, so didn't share it here, soz.
