I think a proper statement of the evidence is that the majority do not support banning. That was my vote, and it reflects my position 99.9% of the time. I can envision supporting a banning, but only in the most extreme circumstance.

I really don't know WHY he wants to be here. he is a nasty spiteful waste of skin that surely must have better places to pollute rather than here.

I have a theory about that that I just posted in the "defecation laws" thread....

I initially voted yes last night; but as I said in my first post, I had second thoughts.... there's no provision in the poll to change a vote, but if there were I would change my vote to "maybe so" ...

I freely admit to being somewhat conflicted; my position is that I'm opposed to banning even the most nasty people as a general principle because I don't like where I believe that can lead....

On the other hand, as I've said, I have no problem with adopting a rule on this board regarding posting personal information that the poster themselves has not made available here that in theory could eventually lead to someone being banned if they violated it often enough.

I think with a subject like this it's good to have a provision for people to be able to change their vote...

To reflect a little more, (as I did....my initial visceral reaction given the way he's behaved was, "Ban Quad? Of course! Capitol suggestion!" ) and also to give folks a chance to perhaps change their minds (either way) based on the points that others in the discussion make.

It's also worth pointing out that the Quadtard claims that you gave him your address yet his words do not bear this out. Why else would he describe your address as "supposedly unknown"?

I'm another who, on reflection, is changing his vote to 'maybe'. The ignore function does not unfortunately work for me with a fuckwit like him. When I see him as posting after me I know what kind of bile and lies he will be spewing and it's not in my nature to let that go unopposed. I wish it was but it isn't.

As far as my address goes...

As I've mentioned before Kelly and I met him for lunch at the Cliff House restaurant many moons ago, and I won't swear that we didn't exchange mailing addresses at that time; though I don't have a recollection of doing so...it would not have been unusual for me at that time to give my home address to a Cafe Darter I met FtF...(at a series of get-togethers at various locales around the country during that time I met 20 plus folks)

However, I haven't lived at that address for a number of years, so if that's the address he was referring to, a very puzzled person would have been wondering why a complete stranger sent a snow blower to somebody living in San Francisco....

We exchanged emails more recently then that, so I'm sure I gave him my current email address, but I can't think of any reason I would have given him my current home address. ( A few people on this board have it)

I may also have given him my home office phone number, (which I've given to a lot of folks from the CSB; I've probably spoken with about a dozen CSBers over the past few years...) but he wouldn't have the main house number, (we don't give that out to anyone but family)

If I did share those things with him it was before he became Der Über Prick.....

This place was formed as a refuge for a group of friends (ok, some of us deeply dislike each other intensely, but for now "friends" will do) who had become sick and tired of the way Gwen was ru(i)ning the CSB, with Steve's malicious spamming and attacks, and Edi's constant lying.

It was never meant to "thrive", it was only seen as a place where a group of old farts who had known each other for a considerable length of time could carry on, debating/arguing/sharing stuff/have a laugh and a chat.

Some of us lived in hope that once Gar had seized back the CSB., and returned some sense of normality (as in 99% of what we see here,) then we would return there. If that were to be the case, then Plan B could have been added as aside annex to the CSB, or just left to wither on the vine.

If Plan B has had any effect, (it has brought Aardy and others back into the fold, and added worthy members such as Stoat and SMF to the pack,) it has been to keep us all in-touch, and prolonged the hope that the CSB in some form or other may return to being.

The CSB itself (old version) is still up and running, and has had contributions from Pexxa, Lo, Hen, Edi, Gwen, Kiko, and many others sporadically.

However, everything Quaddy has done here has (for me personally) made any chance I would want to return to the old fold of the CSB in whatever form, redundant. He has brought here, everything I wanted to get away from at the CSB.

Using my daughter's name as a weapon is not something I can countenance. Yes, I did post it at the old CSB (and on my own site) but is that carte blanch to take her name and use it as a threat? To say, and I quote; "cross posted at the PlanB and anywhere else I see fit."

What sort of a man would do that? Not a real man in any sense of the word. Quaddy is welcome to say whatever he likes about me, and Hen as she participates here, but to drag our daughter's name in as a weapon?

That has to be the most cowardly, childish, sick, and reprehensible way of "getting at" someone who you do not like. It shows Quady up for the sort of person he is

It may be difficult for many to recall at this point, given all the bullshit he's passed under the bridge, but for most of the years Quad posted at the Cafe Darte and then at the CSB he, was nothing like what he has become...

For most of that time, Quad was a very inoffensive person who for the most part never involved himself in the interpersonal drama that would erupt from time to time....

His longest posts were about cars, (which he seemed to know something about) he occasionally posted on political issues, and came across basically as a moderate conservative...he really wasn't the sort of poster who seemed to evoke very strong reactions one way or another, and he seemed to be comfortable with that...

Eventually, (the reasons for this I don't recall) he started to have a one-one on one back and forth with Joe Guy....

But this didn't really change his basically inoffensive reputation much because for the most part everybody else stayed out of it...

The turning point for Quad came, in my opinion, after his exchanges with Joe escalated to the point that Joe said that he had reported Quad to his boss. (Which I felt was totally inappropriate, and said so at the time.)

I think this really pushed Quad over the edge; it was at that point that Quad took the back and forth he'd been having between Joe to a new level and adopted the "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" approach.

I looked this up once earlier; it was within days of that incident that Quad jumped into the discussion about whether or not Steve had threatened to rape Joe. This was where he began to really destroy his reputation and make a complete fool out of himself, (even to the point of at one juncture of absurdly claiming that the Ned Beatty rape scene in Deliverance was an example of "rough" consensual sex....

As involved as I was in going after Steve and Gwen in that thread for their blatant lies, I still didn't go after Quad about it, because at that point I viewed it as atypical behavior on his part; I figured he was just lashing out irrationally because he was mad at Joe.

What I believe happened at this point though, was that after being an inoffensive background poster for so long, Quad came to enjoy the notoriety and attention, (albeit mostly negative attention) that his making common cause with some of the biggest liars on the CSB was bringing to him.

But even so, for my part, for a good long while after that, I personally refused to get involved in attacking him, even though I fully realized he was saying stupider and stupider things and behaving in an ever more dishonest and offensive way. (As I explained to some folks who PM'd me about this at the time, my position was that there were enough other people taking him on, and that I had my hands full dealing with the Liberal idiots at the time...like rubato and EGlide.. so that I felt that going after Quad really wasn't my responsibility.)

But what happened with Quad, was that in order to keep the attention level on himself that he had come to revel in, (and to curry favor with the Troll Trio, who in order to use him as a battering ram had suckered him into thinking that they actually respected him) he had to keep lashing out at more and more people.

My turn came the day he decided to to accuse me of having Rush Limbaugh as a "hero" ...

I first politely asked him if he could provide a link to where I had said the sorts of things that would indicate that I considered Limbaugh to be a hero, or to retract the charge...He of course couldn't do this, but kept insisting that it was true...

I then buried him, (with help from Strop) under a barrage of at least a dozen quotes, of mine complete with links, showing that I had in fact been highly critical of Limbaugh repeatedly, and again asked him to produce even one single quote to back up his charge....

Surprise, surprise, he failed to do so....

By this time he had crawled so deep into the troll zone he couldn't crawl back....

From then on, it was open season on Quad as far as I was concerned, until I finally got so fed up dealing with the know-nothing slime bag and his trolling antics that I stopped reading his posts entirely a couple of months ago. It was pointless and draining, and also he had made himself into such an easy and transparent buffoon to make sport of that I began to feel like I was amusing myself by kicking the the crutches out from under the crippled kid. (A dishonest, bloviating and obnoxious crippled kid, but a crippled kid none the less)

It's a shame that through a combination of anger and exploitive manipulation by the Troll Trio this guy has become what he is today, but as I said in a different context last week, "it is what it is".

I don't vote in polls but you can put me under, "No to banning anyone for anything". Once let out, the beast does not go back in the cage easily.

I don't like anyone posting any personal info of another poster (even if that poster has posted their info previously here), but I think the members are better at "pee-pee wacking" the offender than any kind of admin punishment. As someone said previously, if they list behaviours that result in a banning, you can bet the ranch that someone will do it/them.

While I usually read 100% of the threads (and the posts contained in those threads) here it's easy (for me anyway) to just pass over and/or skim and/or just dismiss those posts that I don't agree with or that I find offensive. I am a little behind right now, so I am not totally up on what has been going on but even so, it's only the freakin internet, ignore or engage, but be ready if you do engage.

I think the opening question should be changed to "Should We Ban Quad?". The question is worded "CAN We Ban Quad?" which the answer is most definately YES. The board certainly has the capability to ban the name and the address(es) he has used the question is "SHOULD" we use that function.

I want to make clear, (in re-reading my post I can see where it might not be) that I am not in any way blaming Joe for what Quad has become...

It was the way Quad chose to re-act ...by taking up the "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" approach, and making himself look like a dishonest fool in the process that did that.
