Speaking of Baseball...
What the hell is going on in the AL East? The Toronto Blue Jays in first, and The Boston Red Sox in last?
There must be a rip in the space/time continium....
(And btw, The Cleveland Indians currently have a better W-L record than the Red Sox....
)
And speaking of that rip in the space/time continium, in the NL East The Amazin' Mets have now increased their division lead to five and a half...
Bu reality hasn't completely broken down; the Cubbies still can't catch a break...
Their W-L Pct of .579 would be good enough for first place in any other division in the NL, (in fact any other division in MLB, except for the AL Central) but because they have the misfortune of playing in the same division as the red hot Cardinals and the Pirates, those poor bastards are in 3rd, nine and a half back....
But then misfortune is something they're used too, so I'm sure they take it in stride....

I'd like to say a word here about the HBO/Billy Crystal movie 61*. Much as I hate the Yankees (andwhodoesn't?billycrystal), I really enjoyed this filmic version of the Mantle/Maris relationship and the case for the home run record in 1961. Barry Pepper is a great Maris living through the most terrible oppression and hatred from Yankee fans, not to mention the Commish.
