I've got news for you, Econo, Rachel does not love only you; she calls me all the time, too. And now she's got a couple of friends at Cardholder Services who she's enlisted to stalk me as well.

I've gotten the IRS call a few times, also "the Geek Squad from Microsoft" because there's "a threat to [my] computer" (which is actually true, since the threat is them; they scammed my elderly mother-in-law a couple of years ago and left her computer a brick).

1. The IRS NEVER calls people. They use the US mail to contact scofflaws. I used to be a tax scofflaw and got piles of letters which I placed in a bag and forgot about it. Long story short, I'm all caught up with the IRS and bastarrds at the State Franchise Tax board. I ended up paying triple because I was unable to pay due to not having a job.

2. I NEVER accept a call outside the 925 area code.

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

That's not going to help you Dale...

I frequently get robo-calls that show up with a 415 area code in the caller ID...

I believe there's a calling software now that will match the caller ID to whatever area code they are calling into...

Recent political news from Indiana has given me one good reason to move there.

Robo calls are Banned in this state, no exceptions.

The Do Not Call list is very effective in California. If anyone calls I am confident that they had the legal right to do so. That's why I'm sure that the man with the Indian accent works for the IRS... And that guy from Microsoft that knows I have a Windows virus on my iMac...

So far, so good..................Jim.

I know there is S/W that can spoof other numbers, it must be a 415 thing. :P

Are you the one who clogs my voice mail speaking in a phony Indian accent?

I've been getting at least one call a day--often two or three--from 954-892-6644; I mostly don't answer but if I do there's no one there (or hangs up immediately); if I call back I get a "mailbox full" message. Looking up the number with Google tells me that others who have been bothered by this number have gotten the "free cruise if you try the time share" scam. How do these companies continue to do business??? Along with the fake credit card interest rate reducers and the senior citizen home alarm systems and medical alert systems??? All using spoofed phone numbers and apparently NOTHING can be done about it, no matter how many times and how many ways you tell them to stop and that you're not interested?

BTW, I mostly work nights and sleep days, but I don't mind answering a call from someone I know, or a legitimate business call, because I realize that not everyone in the world is on my schedule. Really, my only possible solution is to turn all my phones off completely, so that no one can ever get through to me. I pay good money for phone service; why should this be the only way I can get some peace?

ETA: Sue, it doesn't bother me that Rachel is apparently a little bi-curious...but when there are replacement robots for a week or two at a time I'm always tempted to Press 1 To Talk To A Representative and then ask (in a very concerned voice) what has happened to Rachel??? I worry about that poor little girl sometimes....

Yeah, at one time I was warned by a scary email that my Bank of America account (which I don't have) was endangered by some suspicious activity. This one had a BoA logo and no grammatical errors, but I still forwarded it to BoA. Jeez, if their security is so piss-poor that they let hackers into my account when I don't even have an account there, I sure never want to take the risk of ever actually opening a Bank of America account...

This is why BoA is too big to fail: they even have customer accounts for folks who aren't customers and don't have accounts!
GAH!
