Sounds like things went well. Here's hoping you return to normal quickly (or do we really want that :nana ).

LOL!! Just back from visiting, Hen's looking great, sat up in bed, able to get herself about and in and out of bed.

Good chance she may be coming out tomorrow.

I say out rather than home, as Hen promised Hatch a sleepover for three friends tomorrow evening/night/morning, as she thought she would be in Hospital still, (I'll be down in Sydney watching Hawkwind!)

So Hatch has invited Sowon, Savvy and Rin-Rin to come over for a girly movie/chocolate, gossiping night.

God help us...

Hen will go stay at her mothers house and get spoiled rotten for the day and night instead.

So, yesterday I was scratching a particularly itching point of my scar when I managed to extract a seven inch piece of surgical thread from my body.

My wound is now as itchy as fuck and painful to move with and I purportedly go back to work on Monday.

Arse biscuits.

was that supposed to come out?

if yes well good stitching usually doesn't come out on it's own until its ready to. The bad news is it doesn't sound like it was supposed to come out at all.

Give the doctor a ring at least before attempting to do anything even mildly strenuous.

you really don't need things popping open on you.

I wasn't aware it was even meant to be there CP.

It was from the drainage hole and the drains were removed on 10 March. I hadn't been told about any stitches. In fact I had been told I had no stitches and was held together with the equivalent of surgical gaffa tape.

I am due to see my Gyno next Thursday. I'll give his office a call and let them know I have extracted surgical thread from my wound.

Yeah the idea that it was a surprise to you points to something not being right.

Sorry Hen but I just had a mental image of you pulling on this thread, it getting longer and longer until the end pops out and your foot falls off... ;)

I have had similar thoughts myself, but usually related to fraying at the edges until only my head remains on the floor.

Argh. It was the revolutionary stitch that was to dissolve in three months time that no-one had actually told me was in there.

In fact I was specifically told that there was no stitches there by the nurse who changed my dressing.

It is back to work for me on Monday despite me now not being stitched any longer. He has had women play competition squash on their first week back from a hysterectomy.

How foolish of me not to be one of them. I must have chosen unwisely.

I can relate to "unknown" stitches. Way back in 1978 over Christmas vacation from college, I ended getting 12 stiches from a hockey puck to the eyebrow. 7 (maybe 10) days later the stitches were removed and I went back to the Univ of Buffalo. Now the remaining scar itched all the time but I figured it was healing. One day my housemate said, "what is that black hair coming out of your forehead" (I am blonde haired, blue eyed with not a touch of brunette let alone black in the hair pigmentation department). I lookk in the mirror and at the top of the cut is this piece of black thread peeking out of the skin on my forehead. I figure I could go to the clinic at school or use the $5 they would charge for a couple of quarts of beer and pull it out myself. Guess which I chose?
I should have gotten a quart more :P

if it hurts to pull a stitch you're doing it wrong. I've pulled a few in my time once I told the Doc he got them all when he hadn't because guess what? he was doing it wrong. you can only pull the knotted end throgh a couple of times before I put the veto down.

once I got home I got the tweezers and no muss no fuss the stragglers were pulled.

Liz agrees...you should feel almost nothing when it's removed if it's being done correctly. Last time she had stitches, her friend Tina removed them with sterilized tweezers...took all of 3 minutes. (Tina is a nurse.)

This stich was what the doctor who stitched me up called an "underground" stitch. He put that one to hold the "meat" of my eyebrow together, then put in the surface stitches (12 in all) to hold the skin together. Seems the doc who removed them missed the underground stitch.

Surface stitches I have taken out more than once without any pain/problems.

And the verdict is ...............

A pinched nerve.

I can either have further surgery and open the scar back up and have a bit of a play, or ... live with it and it will disappear in about 3 months.

I chose the later.

I really wish you could have had it done trans-vaginally as I did because I had none of your trouble. I was up walking a couple of miles in a week. No pain meds other than Advil beyond the first day or so.

Well it's done. Get some coco butter for the itching, it may help minimize your scaring too.
