I'M NO SOUTH AFRICAN SOLICITOR...

All things related to the general running of the forum - got a suggestion? Here's where it should go.

It would be "nice" if his story were true. Just a haccident yer honner. But it sounds like total batdoo. The construction of the
spin doctor hired by Pistorius (who) is the former editor of the UK tabloid The Sun, Stuart Higgins. According to this piece on the Guardian, Higgins had given media support to Pistorius during the London 2012 Games as well and is known for his talent in crisis management representing some big names from the sports world in the past, including, Andy Murray, football club Chelsea, etc.

Once again, it's a 'sports' link. Did shooting women become a "sport" while I slept?

I felt a sense of terror rushing over me
When I read that initially, my immediate thought was, "This guy chose his words carefully; he's trying to establish the basis for an insanity or "diminished capacity" defense. Probably based on the idea that he would have a greater "sense of terror" and paranoia than the usual person; maybe based on his physical disability, (an argument that would be much more persuasive were Mr. Pistorius not a professional sprinter) or possibly as a result of "roid rage" or some other chemical-based explanation"

I still think that's the case....

That having been said, charging him with premeditated murder in this case, from a commonsense standpoint, seems a bit of stretch...

I understand that (under US law anyway) "premeditation" can be formed even within a few seconds, but from the way most folks interpret "premeditation" it wouldn't fit...

When most people think of " premeditation" they think of something that was planned out somewhat in advance of the crime....

No one would plan to kill their significant other in their home, try to claim it was an accident, and come up with this scenario in advance and expect the explanation to fly...

As cunning plans go, this one left a lot to be desired....

Of course "premeditated" doesn't necessarily mean "smart"....

Another thing that kind of bugs me about the coverage on this, is the way some pundits have bundled this together with sports figures who committed far lesser offenses, in order to make some point about the way society idolizes sports figures who then don't measure up to their public image...

To give one example, a couple of days ago Chris Matthews referred to Mark McGuire, Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, Pistorius and OJ Simpson all together in a commentary attempting to make this "point" ...

I'm sorry, but guys who presented themselves as positive role models and turned out to be hypocrites and assholes, as odious as that behavior may be, don't deserve to get lumped together with stone cold killers like Pistorius and Simpson....

Comparisons like that grossly trivialize the offenses of the latter...

Baldric has come up with better.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
