Just to clarify, I never prank called Steve.

(I have a very strong suspicion as to which other female CSB poster might have done so, and then sat silently by while I was accused at length without stepping up to take responsibility . . . but that's water long under the bridge, as far as I'm concerned.)

I hope that folks aren't still suffering from any delusion that I committed any such act - as an attorney, I do tend to keep my behavior on the right side of the law.

About a month ago with some time on my hands, I went back and re-read some of the exchanges I had with Gwenvita and the rest of the Troll Trio at CSB II...

It was a real reminder of just what a non-stop dramafest the original CSB had become the last year or two of its existence...

This board even at it's worst from a drama standpoint, (during what was going on with LoCa or Quad) has never approached the level of constant, board-consuming 24/7 acrimony, nastiness, smears and pure viciousness that defined the CSB in its last days...

Is it possible that she finally got so high upon her imaginary throne that she became unstable and reached for something to steady her which she grabbed but it turned out to be a handle so when she let go it resulted in her being flushed into the human waste pipes of the common man where Steve resides - and they have lived together crappily ever after?

It was started improbably enough by Captain Ray, and then there's a heavy dose of Steve's entitlement attitude, his bitterness about Gwen getting shit-canned, Gar trying to humor him, followed by the main discussion...

At 06.02.2011 11:35 in that thread (I can only give you the date and time stamp, if you want to get past Steve's lengthy whine-a-thon, you'll have to scroll down; one of the many issues with that site was the fact that you can't link directly to posts) Gwen chimes in for the first time, putting her signature delusional cluelessness on display as she talks about how she is owed an apology...

Then things really get going...

Among other things, in her left handed fashion, Gwen apologizes for having not having been enough of a dictator, and says she apologized to the people who she believed she owed apologies to, (ie Steve and editec of course; they were clearly the wronged parties...)

If you've got a little time to kill, the thread is kind of amusing and will definitely bring back memories...

I still wonder what happened to all the $$$ in contributions we chipped in towards the running of the CSB. The ones Gwen point blank refused to tell us how much remained of, or how they were being spent. Still, who were we to ask, eh?

Before anyone asks, the last whip round for contributions on Plan B raised $60.00 US, all of which were spent on hosting costs, ($110.00 pa.) I paid the balance as I use server space for my Blogsite.

I tried reading that, Jim. I very shortly found myself scrolling through Steve's posts...no harm done, it seemed like he kept saying the same things over and over. I found your posts and Gar's posts pretty interesting, but after reading the first few posts from Gwen I really started to get a headache (probably the same one I would have gotten had I read all of Steve's posts rather than scrolling through most of them after the first 2 or 3) and suddenly I didn't want to even check to see how much longer the thread went on, I just hit the BACK arrow and came back here.

My head really hurts. I'm going to go lie down for a while. See you later.

I'm so bored I actually went through it again...

I used a lot of really good material in that thread...

In retrospect, it's tough to remember why I was so amped...(not the mellow sort of fellow I am today... )

In the grand sweep of things, it's not like any of that crapola really matters...(what really "matters" are my kids and my wife, and my sister-in-law and her kids and the new one she's about to have...but I digress...)

That whole exchange took place over less than a month...(Captain Ray's first post was on Jan 30th 2011, the last post in the thread was on Feb. 27th)

I think the reason I became so lasered in on that exchange is because I felt personally betrayed by Gwen...

I liked Gwen; I had never met her, but I'd had some lengthy phone conversations with her, (the phoney Scottish accent was a little creepy) but I thought she was a well meaning person dealing with a difficult task...

And as a result, I defended her, and stood up for her, long after a lot of other people I also liked and respected, were out for her scalp...

I really believed that she was able walk the tightrope of being personally close to the two most malevolent and toxic characters on the board, while still being an honest broker as the admin...

And then she expressed her gratitude for my support with a swift kick to the crotch over the editing time issue...

She created a situation where she not only made it impossible for me to continue to defend her, but also a situation where she made me look foolish for having done so in the first place...

And then on top of that, she tried to blame me for the predicament she had created for herself...

I have issues with that sort of behavior...

So I think the explanation for all the posts I had in that thread basically amounts to:

"So that's the way you want to play it ? Okay, in that case, I'm gonna put in the shiv and twist...that's a choice you're going to be sorry you made"...

I thought about calling her on it, (I knew she was born and raised in Connecticut...) but I thought that would be rude...

The first time she did it I thought "okay, well maybe she's just doing it as Renaissance Festival persona type thing, and she's talking to me that way to be cute, and to play the "Gwenhwyvar" character...(Which she insisted was her real name...she also recalled...correctly... that the first thing I said to her when she first showed up at Car Talk was "I'd like to buy a vowel" ...)

But when I talked to her the third time, and she still wasn't dropping the act, it was starting to seem a little odd...

When a person makes a mistake; (especially if they are a proud person who is not easily given to admitting to mistakes...)

The natural inclination is to try to find some way to rationalize the error, or minimize it, or deflect at least part of the responsibility for the mistake to someone else...

I think the thing about Gwen that really pissed me off the most, was that her behavior left me in a position where none of those options were available to me...

She left me with no choice but to stand up and say, "I blew it; I was completely 100% wrong, and the folks who were arguing the opposite point of view were 100% correct..."

I'm not a big fan of being in that position...

I actually went to school with someone whose mother was named "Gwenhwyvar". (She was Siobahn, her brother was Sean.) She was amazed that I actually knew the correct pronunciation.

Sure you're remembering that right LJ? I spoke to her several times as well - we had tried to coordinate a FTF because she was in and out of Boston for work, and I was back and forth to Connecticut. She never used a Scottish accent with me (although her surname is indeed Scottish) and used her real name - which is neither Gwenhwyvar nor Gwen.
