oldr, how are you doing on the ciggies? When I get to Friday, it will be my 4th consecutive week without a single smoke - that's the longest I've gone in a long time without smoking at least a few here or there.

I have to admit I had a cigarette or two in hte month and a half I have been on chantix just to confirm that smoking them did absolutly nothing for me. Consider it confirmed.

I am doing it solely by willpower - I wasn't a regular smoker anyway, just a social smoker with occasional stress-induced periods of semi-regular (as in, buy my own pack instead of buying singles off smoker friends) smoking.

Basically my strategy has been avoidance of smoker friends and reminding myself of the litany of things I hate about smoking (the stink, mostly) when I get stressed enough that the idea of buying ciggies pops into my head.

Mostly I consider my mother's COPD and current 24/7 oxygen requirement and her late cousin's death during recovery from a double-lung transplant operation following years of severe COPD. Apparently it runs in my family, so it seems wise to quit putting shit in my lungs now and hope that I've not done enough damage already that I can't beat that trend.
