Hatch started working earlier this year. Just a temporary job, to build up funds for Uni which starts in February. She's working partly in the catering dept, and partly with the nutritionist department, of the local hospital. (She likes her job so much she may keep doing it and attend Uni part time.)

She's just been given her Xmas roster; starting 22nd. December, she work a shift every day through to 8th. January, including all the holiday days, Xmas, boxing day, New Years day.

Welcome to the world of work our kid.

Yeah, been there, (not boxing day) and done that many, many times. Really only bothers me to work New Year's Eve and ring in the new year at work. Demoralizing. This year I got Thanksgiving off Christmas Eve, Christmas, the day after Christmas and New Year's Eve. Work New Year's Day which blows because I get up at 3:15 am to go to work so that means early to bed NYE. (I am old and sleep is a must.) Can't complain (too much and pointless anyway) at all.

Young'ens just at a job always catch the holiday shifts. Later on in their careers they will be rewarded with those days off. Of course she is in Australia, so in a few weeks she should have built up enough time that she can take a few months off.
:o
Good luck to her and her future.

PS
My son is an assistant nutritionist at a hospital. He has to work Christmas.

Never mind - she gets the rest of the year off like all Australians :nana

That's so untrue Meade!

Why, after my three week Xmas break I'll be going back to work for nearly five whole weeks before I bugger off to Bali on holiday...

You poor soul Sean! I'm only waiting until the first week of February to have a holiday to recover after working most, (ok, half,) of January. Mind you, I only took that 7 week break as recent as November, so I'm not sweating it.

You know, after 24 years, 11 months and 2 and 1/2 weeks working of rhte same employer I had 5 weeks vacation every year and 6 sick days (of which I accumulated 600 hours) and then I got layed off. They paid me the unused vacation time but no the sick time. Now I started over in this job and only get 9 days vacation a year (every year I get one more day). At my age (55yo) I would like time off. Vacation week in the summer, a week to go hunting, a few days here and there in the winter to go snowmobiling. Sucks to get layed off (and start a new job) just when all the earned vacation time was going to be appreciated.

When I was younger (10 years ago) I didn't know what to do with all the time off. Now that I don't have it, I could fill the time up immediately.
Oh well, such is life.
:shrug

I finished on Thursday and am back on Jan 6th. I've had to use 5 days leave for that though which only leaves me with about 7 weeks in the bank...

Let's see. I finished on April 14th 2009 and I've only got the number of days until I die in the bank... It's the uncertainty that bothers me

I'm off the 24th until afternoon of the 2nd, but have a couple of cases jumping so may be doing work via email/cell. It's been one of the busiest Decembers I can remember!

I started a holiday from 16 December. I have to go in for two days, on 2nd and 3rd January, but then I'm off again until 13 Jan.
I haven't had this much continous time off for six years - and that time it wasn't for pleasant reasons. Since then I've had a few mini-holidays - a few days off here and there - but not a full-on holiday.
This time it's for a great reason - 'cos my son is home from the Army for Christmas :) He's spending time with his brothers and his mates, but in between I'm enjoying my time with him and it all being 'just like old times'. :ok

Work Monday & Tuesday (probably a short day Tuesday), then off until the 2nd. (I took my four remaining personal days in order to have a Christmas break...which will give me time to, among other things, get my truck undercoated, sand the dining room floor, and the one I'm dreading: replace the ceiling fan.)

The house has to be presentable for sale...which means the parquet floors un-scraped and the fan functioning!

Of the things on your list, I find replacing the ceiling fan the less painful.
