hello!
I m a refugee from the cartalk site. I like the cartalk site but the topic police are cracking the whip, and I don t like being scolded everytime a conversation wanders a bit from cars.
I see many interesting threads here and hope to join in the debate.
thanks,
wes

Re: hello
Hey there, Wes. I'm a refugee from CarTalk as well (left during the Great Exodus of what, 2002? 2003? Whenever it was that the Cyberbabes went crazy and started murdering posters). Back then, topic drift was part of the site's charm. In the Exodus we had relocated to Michael Feldman's Whad'ya Know website, but then got thrown out of there when the management found all the cat poop and empty vodka bottles in the basement.
Anyway, bygones.
Pleased to make your acquaintance; nice to have some new blood around here. Make yourself at home. I think there's still some beer in the fridge.

Re: hello
Some weirdo who posts here probably was at the Cartalk Website and pointed him to Plan B when he mentioned he would like it if he were not being over-moderated and not being allowed to talk about anything but cars.Lord Jim wrote:I'm curious Wes; how did you happen to hear about this place?
I have no idea who that might be.
Who knows? Someone from Cafe Dartre using the name 'Bing' might have also been told about Plan B but may not have shown up here yet (or is just lurking).
It's almost impossible to tell how that kind of information gets out there.
btw - wesw might also be posting at Le Chat House for all we know. Stranger things have happened.

His last name is Bot; Bing Bot and his brother Google Bot are on the board frequently but they never post a thing...

Re: hello
The discussion boards at Cartalk were once under the umbrella name of "Cafe Dartre". I think it was supposed to be like groups of people sitting in a cafe and having conversations. A lot of us left when problems started happening with the moderation. Two of the forums were Rant & Rave and All the Rest. We talked freely, had a lot of fun and fought and went nuts at times then eventually the moderators and administration changed everything to pretty much what it is now.
That's the way I remember it anyway....

Re: hello
Hi there, Wes. I think I may have said hello to you over at Le Chat House, but if I haven't, or even if I have, welcome to the Plan B Forums. The overall discussion boards at Car Talk were called Cafe Dartre (rhymes with Sartre) in honor of Tom Magliozzi's beloved 1963 Dodge Dart convertible; some of the forums were less related to cars and the radio show Car Talk than others, until the management pulled the plug.
Some of us migrated over to an unmoderated (now-defunct--or at least moribund) site called the Cyber Soap Box, and when it looked as if that site might be about to expire before a planned replacement site was up and running (LONG long story), Gob started this site as a life raft to keep us in touch with each other...hence the name "Plan B" (nothing to do with contraception
).
Feel free to wander around and make yourself comfortable. If you don't want that beer, I'll take it--if Beer Sponge hasn't already beat me to it.

Welcome Wes!
I was not part of the Cafe Dartre riff-raff... Some of us classier types escaped the clutches of the evil queen Wendy at the Darwin Awards Forums many moons ago and ended up here via the Cyber Soap Box.

Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?
