As of tomorrow

Post by Gob »

I'll be off line, possibly until next Tuesday, (your Wednesday,) I bet you're heartbroken!

We're moving house this weekend, and, although moving the phone line/ number only took two clicks of the mouse, moving our broadband connection seems to be the tech equivalent of the Labours of Hercules.

Fans of the Blog* will get all the gory details of the move next edition.

Yes, we know the Blog exists. It's "fans" that are imaginary - probably at the end of your garden?

Touche' Meade...

Working until 5.00 today, then we begin the house move.

(I nearly said "begin moving" but that was f-a-a-a-a-a-r to obvious a set up.)

Many things are far to obvious - others fair to middling. I hope it goes well for y'all.

Moving sux. I know, we just moved my Mom out of her house in Maine (imagine, packing up a little old lady's home, where the pipes have been drained and there is no heat, in -5 degree weather). But the upside is that is sold quickly, and closed easily, and its no longer a headache for my sister and I!

So good luck with it all, I hope it goes smoothly and easily!

Moving does indeed suck. I'm in the midst of a move, and I keep hoping I can go to sleep one night, and wake up the next morning with it all done! But no. Stuff to be packed (done). Stuff to be moved (mostly done). Stuff to be given away (hoping that'll be finished this weekend). Stuff to be tossed (mostly done). Stuff to be unpacked and arranged in less than half the space I used to have (ARRGHHH!!!). Stuff in my friend's garage to go though and sort into keep/giveaway/sell/toss piles (not even started). Sigh.

Unfortunately, no. And it's on a chicken ranch! I'm not even allowed a pet bird in my house. Concerns about bird diseases, I guess. I was able to find a home for them very quickly, however. The ranch owner has some pet chickens (apart from the commercial side of things), so I sometimes have them running around outside my converted feed shed. About 20 feet from the front door is a field with sheep and lambs. There's a ranch dog (probably mostly Border Collie) who tries to herd me around the driveway, and countless feral cats.

I love it.

Just waiting for the phone line to go down

We shifted boxes of small stuff over the past few days in our station wagon.

I'm picking up a 3 tonne truck this afternoon, one with a tail lift, so we can shift our furniture.

But you have to pay them, and Hen can carry twice her own body weight in furniture.

Yeah, but it's fun paying her, and she needs a regular payment.,

Sunday 8.00 am here, and, despite being told that the phone line would go down at 9.00 on Saturday, here I am.

I wonder if I've hacked into next doors router?

Worked it out.

The number's been ported, but the line is still active. neat.

having said that, we need to shift the computer now, (after walking the dogs.)

Moved every thing just about. Hatch, Bra, and their mate 'Enry were great help. Lugging a houseful of furniture and personal effects is a lot harder than the gym, and a fuck of a lot less fun. Luckily we've taken today off to arrange the new place. So fuckered last night that a bottle of good cider had me out for the count at 9.30pm! Of course, when Hen moves from a big house to a little house, the priority has to be....

......new furniture!

But I can refuse her nothing, as she's got great sense of taste and decor. Blog readers will get a video walk through next issue.

The dogs are adapting well.
