Funding Plan B

Post by Gob »

Ok, this is up for discussion.

At the moment me and Hen are paying the bill for the hosting.

We're not skint by a long shot, so we're comfortable with paying.

But we all know what happened at the other place.

And I don't want this to be "our" forum.

Since we've been up and working RB has very kindly done the majority of the backroom technical stuff, so it's not like me and Hen are running the place in any case.

Thoughts for an independant Plan B?

Poo that. It costs nothing, payment is of no consequence, and it's not our Board.

I am all for collective decisions in directions to take. I find a succinct poll question is usually the way to go.

Set up a pay pal account and if people want to contribute they can.

I'd be happy to contribute for hosting costs as well. I think a paypal we can send $$ to as needed is a fine idea - just let us know when you are being called on for more hosting costs.

In general I would say that this board feels entirely different from the other place; I certainly feel like if I had a complaint it would be addressed, and that decisions of consequence have been open for input from all members.

Paypal would be my idea to.

HOWEVER.

I would argue for a MAXIMUM donation, in the region of $10, (roughly one months host fees,) also I'd want the running totals (and donors) to be overt and available to all (in a thread?) here too.

So a dozen or so people chipping in $10 (US) each would cover one years running cost

Oh, and until I can work out a way of making them separate, you'd be contributing to the cost of hosting my website. :)

I think it should all be kept anonymous in case there are those who are skint or just don't care to give.

So obviously we would be able to make administrative decisions there too?
Why is it that when Miley Cyrus gets naked and licks a hammer it's 'art' and 'edgy' but when I do it I'm 'drunk' and 'banned from the hardware store'?

As do I.

Otherwise, I can see it now: "Well! I contributed more than you did, so I obviously care more than you do ...." Blah, blah, blah.

(As to Lord Jim's suggestion about administrative decisions concerning the operation of Gob's website, it's really quite simple: The more Leonard Cohen songs Gob puts up, the more we should contribute. :nana )

That's a thought, however, as the money would have to go into a bank account controlled by some one, there would always be someone with the knowledge of who contributed.

If it meant some fuckers would actually go visit it the place, I'd relish that :)

Well the only one who needs to know is he who collects the money. Doesn't need to be general board knowledge.

Auction off a can of vegemite on ebay.

Actually it doesn't have to go into anyones bank account other than the hosting company, you can set up a link which allows people to donate via paypal directly to your hosting account.

On the subject of hosting - Image our hosting company is carbon nuetral :D
If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs, you may have misjudged the situation.

How about someone who has never posted here and has no desire to post here? In my profession, we are accustomed to dealing with such situations. (Just look up "ethical wall".) If that is the consensus of the board, I think that I can arrange that.
