Out of interest
How many here are working, how many retired?
If you are still working, what age do you plan to retire?
If you are retired, what age did you stop working at?
We're in the early stages of a 17 month plan to retire.

In about 25 years or earlier if we can swing it
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: Out of interest
I plan to work in some manner til I drop. My hubby will probably retire after 30 years of doing what he does but will do something else at least part time. We like working.
Re: Out of interest
I have no doubt that you'll be good at retirement...We're in the early stages of a 17 month plan to retire.
Afterall, you've been practicing for it for years...

I feel the same way...I plan to work in some manner til I drop.
I work for myself, I enjoy what I do, I see no reason to stop...
I've told Tati that she's our retirement plan...
She's supposed to become a famous and wealthy actress, and buy her mother and I a little bar in The Florida Keys which we can open when we feel like it and otherwise lie out on the beach or cruise around on our boat...

Re: Out of interest
Taff'll probably have to work more hours when he retires.
I retired in 2009 at age 59. Until recently I was still retired. My wife (retired) now informs me that I am not retired. I am "between jobs".
I detect a hint

Re: Out of interest
I've considered it.... much depends on the old knees (or are they above the old knees?). Anyway, managed an hour and a half of walking behind my mower yesterday to cut the grass in the front yard and the side bits. Looks as if I might be able to stand around and say "Hello" at least...

I'm still working, but I still have two weddings to look forward to and would like to stash a bit more away for retirement; also I like what I do. So long as my health holds (and I have no reason to think it will not at this point), I'll probably retire within the next 7 years.

With two kids to put through college, (geez, I hadn't even thought about the expense for Tati's eventual wedding...thanks for reminding me about that Big RR..

Gob, good luck. At least you have an opportunity to plan for it. I had no choice and my life changed forever -- and not in the best of ways.Gob wrote: How many here are working, how many retired?

Re: Out of interest
Still working.
I'm 57 (58 in june) and plan to retire tomorrow.
Planning and doing are two different things.
After I am 60 I will start really planning to retire.
I probably have enough money and have plenty to do with the time off.
But who knows, I'll probably work til I die, at least part time.

It's the part-time dying that worries me...

I agree with you there...MajGenl.Meade wrote:It's the part-time dying that worries me...
When it comes time to die, I don't want to be just "deadish"...or "maybe a little dead".....
I want to die properly, and keel over in a totally dead way...
Seems like the least I could do....

Re: Out of interest
Thanks guys, interesting responses.
We'll be 59 (me) and 54 (Hen) retiring, if our plan comes off.
Be moving back to Blighty to retire.
Paying off our UK mortgage tonight!!!! We will own a little cottage in Cornwall, original building dates back to 1890.
Oh, nearly forgot!

Unless something highly unusual happens, I'll be working until I'm 70, at least. (10 more years) I just hope the boss keeps the shop open. He's got young children and will need to keep working himself for at least another 10 years.
If I could afford it, I'd quit tomorrow, even thought I quite like the job.

I thought I recalled that you had a plan to gray nomad. I thought you were going to gray nomad in Oz. Is the plan to gray nomad in Blighted now?
PS ETA: What about your doggies?
Re: Out of interest
Change of plan TPFKA@W, rather than hang on in there and work until we have enough cash saved to do the grey nomad thing, we're cutting our expenses and going to live frugally, but without working.
At least for 5 years, then Hen's superannuation fund will kick in and we'll be able to live like the proverbial pigs in.
WE decided we'd rather have the years of not working and to spend the time with each other, than hang on for another 5-7 years in work.
Also I've been suffering profound hireath for Cornwall for some years, five or more, and its not getting any easier.
Mutts will, of course, emigrate with us.
