The New CSB's "Liar's Loophole"

I was going to just post this in the CSB Reboot thread, but when thinking about it, I decided that it was a sufficient concern, for those here who might be interested in participating in the new board, (as I already have been) to merit it's own thread.

I've already raised the alarm about this at the new site. Here's the problem, as I laid it out over there:
Here's a big problem I see with this "hundreds of posts on one page" thing....

When you do a search in order to quote what someone has said, the search feature does not take you directly to the quoted post, only to the thread. This means that you then have to scroll through the entire thread to find the quote.

The combination of these two problems; (all the posts in a thread appearing on a single page and the search feature not linking directly to the post you want to quote) means that as threads grow longer, quoting what a poster has previously said will become a practical impossibility, as one will have to scroll through hundreds of posts to find the quote. (This is already becoming a problem with some of the longer threads)

Personally, I view this as a very serious functional problem. If it becomes impossible to quote what posters have said previously verbatim, (and allow others to follow back to the original quote to make sure the remarks were not taken out of context) it not only seriously hinders honest debate, it plays straight into the hands of the most dishonest players at the expense of the ones with integrity.

The having to scroll through hundreds of posts problem would only be annoyance if the search feature would bring up links to the specific post. Conversely, the search function not going to the specific post would only be an annoyance if there were only 15-20 posts to scroll through to find the one with the quote.

The two problems combined create a situation that is a lot more than an annoyance.

******************

The combination of all the posts on one page, and the fact that the search feature doesn't link directly to the post being quoted, will have the effect of creating a "Liars Loophole" that will give the most dishonest players here the opportunity to avoid being held accountable for what they say, at the expense of everyone else.

Honest players don't worry about verbatim quotes with links back to the original statement that enable folks to verify the context.

Honest players welcome that.
Predictably, Gwen has already jumped in to say just how wonderful she thinks this situation is....

I'm sure we can expect Steve and editec to chime in with their approval in short order....

I realize the new CSB is still in Beta test (or "shakedown cruise" mode, to use Gar's term) and to be fair to Gar, he hasn't been around the past few days responding to anything, and I just noticed this glitch and posted about it this morning.

But I have to say that if at the end of the day something isn't done about closing The Liars Loophole, it will be a deal breaker for me personally in terms of participating on the new board....

It's frustrating enough to try and have discussions with people who shamelessly lie about what they have said....

It will be impossible if the one mechanism available for holding them accountable has been removed.

If Gwen, ed and Steve actually understood what the word "honest' meant, they would be VERY embarrassed by their behaviour.

I put it down to them all being as ignorant as pig-shit on a blanket.

: )

(Meant in the nicest possible way, naturally.)

Based on past behavior, even if the "Liar's Loophole" were to be fixed it wouldn't make any difference to the four liars.

They will continue to pretend to not see anything that proves them wrong.

Hey!.... that might be a new term to use...

They're the four 'Not sees'.

They controlled the CSB for a couple years until they were destroyed by their lack of ability to see their own weaknesses that were obvious to others, which led to their embarrassing demise.

Gwen once required her three minions to address her as 'Der Führer,' but then later realized that her behavior caused her to only have fewer friends.

Get it?

Führer friends?

I must go elsewhere now...

Oh, I'm quite certain of that....

But at least the ability to bring forth what was actually said serves as a check in terms of exposing dishonesty to others.

Without that, the liars get a free pass....

I've not posted there yet.

I've yet to see a topic opened for debate there that was of sufficient interest, or had not already began here.

Ok, I'm biased...

Who needs the place? It looks pretty pointless from where I stand, unless of course you have a deep craving to read the idiocy that is Steve and the paranoia that is Editec and the ass-kissing nurturing of those 2 by Gwen. Then of course there are Kiko and Quad who are nothing but differing versions of Steve, not real bright by any measure. I have looked in a few times. Nothing calls.

Quite apart from it being a problem for the membership - thats going to be one heck of a headache for the admin and eventual moderators too as the search will function the same way for them.

While I have registered there I have no interest in following Gwen, Edi and Steve just for the sake of pointing a finger at them for what they post. I rarely opened any of their posts on the CSB. I have a built in ignore feature and I use it. :ok

BTW that ignore feature was a gift from a friend,Loki. ;)

CSB II seems to be all Steve, editec & Gwen with a few others commenting occasionally to distract from the same old paranoid anti-government paranoid shit that went on at CSB I.

For Garaelb's sake, I hope things will change, but it doesn't look too promising at the moment.

Well, he has said that he will make fixing the Liar's Loophole a priority; I give him credit for that.

Scooter, and DB, I hope you can forgive me....

I just suggested to Steve that he might want to consider moving to Canada.... :D

He needs to think about going somewhere, he's certainly not happy here.

Despite what he may insinuate.

However I'm through with that...

Keld, there are some folks who just ain't happy unless they're miserable...

My mother was one of those; so is Steve....

And that type person frequently isn't satisfied with being miserable themselves....

No, they are at their utmost level of sublime bliss when they are about the task of trying to make everyone around them feel miserable as well....

I believe that's the crux of why Steve is the way he is.....

(Well, that and the mental illness thing of course....)

No worries, Canada is a big place. Lots of lovely places for him to choose from here:

It doesn't make sense to post anything of substance exclusively on that site at this point, since there are so few people frequenting it....And as I said , because of the 60 minute editing time limit, I'll never be able to post any of my longer political analysis or philosophical essay type pieces exclusively on that site.

Myself, LoCa, and Keld, (and now it looks like Steve's assholic behavior has succeeded in getting Keld to give up on the site) and a little from Joe and Hen are pretty much the only ones posting there besides Steve, editec, Gwen and Kiko...(Quad doesn't even seem to be posting much) and overall Steve is definitely dominating the posting....

There is one thing I will definitely be posting over there...

Any good economic news I come across....

I know how much Steve just loves any positive or optimistic economic news...

I'd hate for him to miss any that comes up.... 8-)

I will give Steve credit for one thing....

He has managed to start a couple of threads on topics that don't focus on his monomaniacal obsessions...

An ability that he had completely lost at the old CSB...

Steve has an amazing facility for trying to find bad news in just about anything, no matter how good the news actually is...

It turns out the US taxpayers are actually making a profit off of the TARP....Steve tries to claim this is only good for rich people....

If they discovered a 100% effective cure for cancer, Steve would bitch that they only did it as part of some plot to enrich themselves while screwing the little guy, and not find anything good about it.
