Can somebody brief me briefly on the way this board functions? Frequently when I check in here, the first thing I do is look down at the bottom to see who else is here. Nearly always a couple of bots are listed, sometimes more than two.

What are they doing?

snailgate.

Spying on you. I noticed they only show up when you are logged in.

What are they doing?

Google Bot, (and his little brother Bing Bot) are scanning the website for new content and activity to determine how to rank the site and it's content with their algorithms for search purposes...(they do this constantly with all the sites on the web)

There are other lesser known search engines who just show up as "bot" without their name, that are doing the same thing...

And then of course there are those bots that are scanning everything as a prelude to an alien invasion, (so they know which people to round up and eat first, and how to find them) but I really don't care to go into that...

Don't forget the NSA bots . . .

And the FEMA Concentration Camp List bots...

And the Gun Confiscation bots...

(wes, you can expect a knock on your door...)
