I'll Be Gone

Heading to Las Vegas for a week. Visit the son and his (not so) new girl friend. Check in with an old high school buddy. Go see Penn and Teller. Take in some sights (Lake Meade, maybe the hoover dam again, see what else there is besides no trees).
Maybe some gambling (craps for me, video poker crack for the wife). An aa meeting or two. Got some names/contacts who know where the good meetings are.

Enjoy the time without me, but remember:
I'll be back.

Don't you want to answer the movie clue before you leave?

Have a good time, (but not too good a time)

And remember that , "What happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas"....

We expect to hear all about it... 8-)

No, no, no.  You need to flounce off in a huff and proclaim that you will be leaving this toxic place, never to return, just like one of our other habitués.  Then we will know for certain that you will be back.

the only reason I would ever go to vegas was if I had enough money to buy a restored muscle car from "counts customs"

I need trees and at least a t stream or a river (preferably a bay or ocean) nearby.....

you think I m nuts now?

put me in a desert....

better than Australia, but that ain t exactly an endorsement.

you have fun tho... :nana

I love going to Vegas...(and taking my family there as well...)

It's not the kind of mobbed up place it was in the 50s or 60s...

It's really quite "family friendly"...

We usually stay at The Mandalay Bay which has the best pool set up...

But as I said to the cab driver who dropped us off at our hotel...

They should erect a statute of Bugsy Seigel Twenty Feet High in the middle of The Strip...

Without him, none of this would ever have happened...

I can take or leave Vegas, but it is the best gambling mecca I can think of (except for maybe Tahoe), and it does have a few good attractions around--I love Red Rock Canyon, lot's of good hiking and pretty nearby.

Honey, I'm baaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!!
We usually stay at The Mandalay Bay which has the best pool set up...
We stayed there when we went in September. The lazy river was great. Too bad they charge $20 for a $3 inner tube. We just floated around without the inner tube. This time we stayed off strip at the Boulder Station. Best part was $5.99 breakfast buffet. I love breakfast buffets and was not dissapointed. All the sausage and bacon you can eat. :ok and hashbrowns (3 styles) and cheese eggs, and scrambled eggs and mexican omellets and chicken fried steak and.......

We had a great time. Got to meet the sons girlfriend and she is really a very nice person, better than the fiance he had. They seem to get along great.

We did the Red Rock Canyon. On and off rain while we were there (Yes it rains in vegas) and a little chilly but good non the less. Only disappointment for me was I saw no rattle snakes, nor tortioses nor wild horses/burrows they said were around. Bunch of the desert flowers bloomed, becuase of the rain I guess (or it was there time of year). Beautiful scenery. I would post pictures but have no account and am too lazy to set one up. :shrug

Also went to Red Stone something or other and hiked and did some rock climbing (without a baby :D ) but we did have my sons and girlfriends dogs along with us. My sons dog (pitbull mix) is a far better climber than I am. That dog must have a little bob cat or leapord in him the way he went up the rocks, but he did have some trouble getting down from some spots. Caught a small lizard there. The dogs flushed him out of the low brush and I grabbed it as I tried to hide in a crevace.

Had dinner at the stratosphere. Nice view and it revolved so you got to see the whole of vegas and the surrounding towns. Expensive too. 4 people, over $400 meal (good thing I don't drink or it would have ben $600) . After sunset you can see the end of each town as past the lights its's just blackness. If you didn't know it you would think there was an ocean out there the way the lights just stop. Wierd thing was they had a ride where you kind of repel (sp?) down the side of the building from aboove the returant. A little strange eating dinner and have someone fly past you as you look out the window.

Went to Lake Meade one of the days. It was nice, but for having this big ass lake with loads of water there is next to no vegetation even at the edge of the lake. I was going to rent a jet ski but they said it was too windy and the lake too choppy for them. I told them I have ridden jet skis in the ocean with bigger waves than what was on the lake, but they wouldn't budge. Bummer.

Walked the stip a bit and took in the wax museum. Also went to the Penn and Teller show at the Rio one night.

Only lost about $50 overall. Was down about $300 on the craps table one night, but came almost all the way back and only lost about $5-$10.
The wife played video poker (what I call video crack) and lost $100 all together (at least that's what she told me). :shrug

I agree with wesw, I could not live there. I need trees and a forest and a lake that has vegitation around it. Nice to visit though.

Glad to see me????? :(

:ok
Don't think I ever left in a huff. A whimper maybe. :shrug :loon

Eggs scrambled with cheese. Kinda like a cheese omelete except the cheese is scrambled in with the eggs while being cooked.

Then I'll pass.

Then again, I don't drink or gamble, so...no reason to go to Vegas. Though the nearby roads probably have some nice riding..........

I did no drinking and not much gambling and still had a great time.
There is plenty to do other than that. Went and saw Penn and Teller (there aremany other shows to see and they don't cost all that much).
Went to red rock canyon and some other red sandstone hiking/climbing area (forgot the name). There's the hoover dam and the western edge of the grand canyon (those we went to on the trip last september).
We also went to (and I swam in) lake meade.
When we go next time I told my wife I am renting a couple of motorcycles and me and the son are going riding.

And you can go to a rifle range and shoot just about any gun/rifle you can imagine including the 50cal sniper rifle and fully automatic machine guns (M-16, AK-47, Tompson sub....).
That's planned on our next trip also.

Vegas, it's not just for drinking/gambling/carousing anymore.

One of my oldest and dearest friends lives in Las Vegas, and after Obama lifted the restrictions that were preventing me from entering the U.S., I went to visit him a couple of times, and was amazed at how much there is to do for someone who drinks little and gambles not at all. I had a great time.

When I was first of legal drinking age, for $5 you would get into a show from an act that had been big a decade earlier, like The Four Tops of The Platters, and two drinks served by topless waitresses. That was a deal you ran for.
