As you may know we're retiring to Blighty next year, I will be 59 and Hen 54.
Hen's done some back of an envelope calculations, and found that by taking her annual, long service and flex leave at 1/2 pay, we will still have an income paid into our bank until.....
....June 2019.

Then what happens is; we live on a savings pot for 4 years, after which her superannuation and my pensions kick in, and we live like pigs in the proverbial.
Going early, to enjoy life while we're fit and healthy is the plan.
Due to us getting together later in life, (I was 42 , Hen was 38,) and my having worked rostered shifts over here for most of my career, means we have not had a chance to share time together, apart from occasional holidays.
It looks like a spot more reserved for retired seals and seagulls, and all the men look like Commander Whitehead.

Too much rock and not enough sand and sunshine.
Well he said they're planning to travel, so maybe he wants to live somewhere that will give him the incentive to do so...

Looks like one of those BBC shows when they're trying to make it look desolate but beautiful. Good work, Gob, enjoy!

As you approach the village it’s not long before you spot the huge blue rollers heading towards the shore which makes Sennen Cornwall’s most westerly surf hotspot. With a long, sandy beach and small harbour the village combines working fishing port with laid back surf style.
On the beach there are top rate surfing conditions and safe bathing within flagged areas which are moved frequently to follow tidal movements while along the seafront, cafes, restaurants, pubs, galleries and shops provide the onshore niceties. The Pedn-men-du, a promontory that protects the cove from the westerly Atlantic gales, is a popular haunt for climbers and in the village the lifeboat station established over 150 years ago is open to visitors in summer.
Although a popular spot so can get very crowded, Sennen’s friendly atmosphere makes for a relaxed day at the beach in one of the UK’s most breathtaking locations.

Due to the Gulf Stream Cornwall has a subtropical climate, quite mild overall and stunningly beautiful. The Shetland Islands, also stunningly beautiful, have an oceanic temperate climate, a bit cooler than Cornwall - but both have much milder winters than the northeast, Midwest, and Mountain West of the US.
California has some lovely weather & stunning beauty - and also wildfires, droughts, earthquakes, too many (crazy) people, etc.
To each his own. Congrats to Gob & Hen!
