Leaving for Florence today for my nephew's wedding. Will be there for a week before travelling elsewhere in Italy to visit relatives and eat a lot.

Buon viaggio! ...and remember my favorite, most useful, go-to phrase (which I still recall from the one time and only time I was in Italy): «C'è qualcuno qui che parla inglese»?

Ditto!
Have a blast, eat a lot, you'll have the whole Canadian winter - which starts next month, right? - to work it off.

That reminds me of a story, possibly one of those shorties from an old (non) Reader's Digest.
A lady who had been to several European countries on a whirlwind tour made it a habit to go into a store, bazaar, mercado, or whatever, and say "Does anyone here speak English" in a loud voice. She went into large department store and did her usual routine. She was met with cold stares. Finally someone volunteered "Madam, this is Harrods".
For those (few) who may be unfamiliar:

Oh, have a great time in Florence.
