Had procedure done on 2-14 at Kaiser hospital in Redwood City (they were the only Kaiser facility that does neurosurgery).
Am now at home recovering from the operation.
A shunt was installed to release spinal fluid from my ventricles (3 X normal size).

Very treatable, very survivable. I'm betting you'll be back in great spirits in a very short period of time.
Take advantage of the rest time.

I have no doubt you'll bounce back just fine from this Dale...
You're too ornery to be kept down for long...

Belated best wishes and strong hopes. I agree with Scooter that that sounds pretty freakin serious...but if Ray, our resident Grim Reaper, calls it "very treatable, very survivable" that should give you high (

) hopes for a great recovery.

Mrs Mc's father had that same procedure several years before his passing at 93. He had originally been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but a better doctor figured out the real reason for his issues.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Sounds like you're on the right track.

Thank you for your support.
Left untreated, hydrocephalus can cause severe disability, even death. Hydrocephalus occurs when excessive cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain. ... Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is made up of water, minerals, nutrients and sugar. It is continually produced by the brain at the rate of 500 mL per day."
Operative term: "Left untreated." My prognosis, providing nothing else is compounding the HC -- meningitis, head trauma, tumors, cysts -- the patient will survive. OK, so no crazy behavior until a few weeks after the shunt is removed.

Never heard of it but glad it's fixed and you are getting better dales.
Good thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
It is continually produced by the brain at the rate of 500 mL per day
Half a liter a day?
Where does it all go?
Is that why I have to pee so much?

PART DEUX
The tubing became dislodged in my stomach.
Had surgery to rectify the problem on Tuesday 3/20.
Okay for now!

There's a complication you don't hear about often. Can I assume it was endoscopic, and not invasive, surgery?
Is that the last of the HC treatment? You should rest up, and get well soon.

RayThom -
They had to open me up again.
They left my skull and neck alone.
It only hurts when I laugh.

Renewed good wishes on a quick recovery. Hard to imagine you not laughing, maybe just smile for awhile.

I'm sorry to read about your plight. You can't catch a break. Be aware of early stroke symptoms, you don't need those problems to interfere with your recovery. Take care.
