MGM, yes, I am. On'W and me are both alkies. We understand the cultural taboos and dark humor, and adapt accordingly. It's how we survive.

So you won't participate in a birthday thread to offer birthday wishes, but you're happy to do it to criticize the person who started the thread?

:P

Looks just like a bottle of sparkling cider to me - accompaniment of every holiday and birthday in my house growing up, on account of my father’s sobriety.

Anyway, happy birthday Oldr! I want you to know how much I respect your journey - in my family people often dabbled in sobriety, but nobody ever did the work of exploring their reasons for addiction so there was a lot of dry drunkenness which in many ways can be worse than active drinking. I’m so impressed by the work you’ve done and your dedication to your family - I wish you all the best!
For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

I'll drink to that!

Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Hey, it's comments like this that will force me to abandon my 37 years of sobriety and start self-medicating with alcohol again. Then you'd be sorry.

Words and pictures are the devil's workshop.
