Does anyone speak gibberish here?

I've carefully verified your website fatbeetle.com and confirmed it
is running PHP 7.2 and downgraded it for you back to PHP 5.6 as
it was previously using before the upgrade received yesterday.

Although, reviewing your website under this domain, I could notice
that you have many mixed files and none of them are defined as your
main page (index.html, index.php, etc) causing your website to show a
"coming soon" page when being accessed, even after downgraded back to PHP
5.6.

With that, we'll need more information on which is your main page
under the website fatbeetle.com and which are the errors received
on your end when trying to access this website.

Reviewing the domain theplanbforum.com and forum.theplanbforum.com,
we could confirm that they are still on phpBB version 3.0.11 and 3.0.9
so to allow them to work with the latest PHP versions offered on
our end you (7.2 and/or above) you'll need to update them to phpBB 3.3.

Here you can review how to upgrade your phpBB version:
https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... /upgrade3/

I could notice they were already downgraded back to PHP 5.6 and
their errors seem to have stopped when checking your website/server
error logs.

Although to better review their issues for you, please give us details on
the errors received on your end while accessing your websites after the
PHP upgrade and if they persisted after your forums were downgraded back
to
PHP 5.6.

Feel free to attach screenshots on your reply and also share the error
messages
when rendering or posting through your forums. In case you need to send
any
attachments, please submit your ticket through the web panel, since
email replies may not deliver your attachments:
https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/215722447

Also, the PHP versions 5.6, 7.0 and 7.1 are no longer supported by
PHP.net, and as such, are no longer receiving security updates or
bug fixes. You can find details on each version of PHP and its
support timeframe at:
https://www.php.net/supported-versions.php

Please keep in mind that these previous versions of PHP(5.6, 7.0 and 7.1)
will not be available much longer on your Shared server! Once
your server is fully upgraded, which will occur (within the next 4
weeks/on Tuesday, February 11, 2020), PHP 5.6 and 7.0 will
be fully removed from your server to improve the overall
security of your site's hosting environment.

So we would recommend upgrading your websites to work with PHP 7.2
or above when possible to prevent any issues after the deadline
mentioned.

I hope this information proves useful and apologize for any
inconvenience.
If you need anything else, feel free to reply to us anytime!

Have a great week!

OK, so they want me to pay them to do the work now!!
Thanks for contacting DreamHost!
I'll be happy to help you.

I've carefully verified your request and confirmed that phpBB
unfortunately does not have a one-click upgrade feature yet.

Although, in case you don't feel comfortable doing this upgrade we
can escalate your case to our DreamCare team to review if they can
perform this upgrade for you for a reasonable fee, which they will
inform after reviewing your website and what would need to be done
to perform the upgrade without losing your website customization.

I've gone ahead and reviewed that from phpBB 3.0.x to 3.3 there
was an architecture change requiring a PHP upgrade from 5 to 7 and
some core features were upgraded, although if your website does
not have too many extra modules than the default phpBB installation
provides, our DreamCare team may be able to help with the upgrade.

Here you can review the phpBB changes since the versions previously
confirmed:
https://www.phpbb.com/support/documents ... &version=3

To confirm if they can do that, please let me know if you would
like your case escalated to DreamCare to review if they can
perform this upgrade establishing a fee for this service.

Currently both your websites theplanbforum.com and
forum.theplanbforum.com
will need the phpBB system(CMS) upgrade, so feel free to also reach a
web developer of your choice if you prefer.

I hope this information proves useful and apologize for any
inconvenience.

Do you or they have any idea what a “reasonable fee” would be? Though I admittedly don’t chip in to the day to day funding of this place if the fee is indeed “reasonable” I would be willing to chip in.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.

Gob, a repeat from the other thread.
Gob, and regardless, you have my longstanding email addy so you will keep me apprised as to my next move, right?

I enjoy this forum for its tolerance and minimal censorship. Nowhere else will we find this kind of open forum.

In the end -- do the right thing. Thank you. Ray

Frustrating and hits my button about unwanted changes that are nonsensically called "upgrades". This is code for tech people altering things that work perfectly fine so they can still have work to do. I'm with the others -- do what you think makes the most sense and doesn't involve tons of work on your part. And if it requires a contribution, some of us can chip in and others can talk about doing so.
