Torn ACL

Looks like i’m going to have surgery to fix this in the near future. I wonder if I could pass this off as a sports injury instead of what it was tripping backwards over a pile of junk I should have not let accumulate in the first few place.

Were you thinking of pitching the junk?

That's why it's always best to place trash in a container...

About fifteen years ago I took a low-speed spill on my bike which resulted in surgery to repair my humerus — I landed wrong with the result that the knob broke off and shattered into about four pieces. I underwent orthopedic surgery to reattach and reconstruct everything; it healed up well, but to this day I still have a plate and about a dozen screws in my shoulder area that I will probably take to the grave with me. And of course, for several years there was a very visible scar whenever I'd go topless or wear a tank top or sleeveless shirt.
Since I didn't want to admit that I was such a klutz that I'd fallen off my bike and bunged myself up, when people would see the scar and ask if I'd had rotator cuff surgery, I'd just dismiss it by saying, "yeah, something like that," and let 'em think whatever they wanted to. I suggest you do the same.

Tell people you were participating in a junkatalon. Baffling with BS is a good strategy.

Surely;

In the moments after landing on said pile with pain rushing through my entire body I had the presence of mind to think that I could still reach my phone and that having to explain this situation to the paramedics was really going to suck. Luckily the majority of the pain faded fast (except for my knee) and was able to eventually get up and hobble into the house. Things gradually improved for the next week and a half until I was almost back to normal and my knee suddenly buckled inward. (I was grateful that my yelp of pain as I crumpled on the floor skewed heavily to the “manly” side). That pointed me to get things seriously looked at and what had seemed to present as a torn meniscus pre MRI turned out to be a torn ACL.

Note on the “junk” this is shorthand for a bunch of miscellany that had been neatly stored for the winter but was haphazardly unpacked and left out due to unpacking the fire pit for a night so my son could have a small birthday get together with a few friends to play outside and allow for the parents not to freeze their asses off while maintaining some semblance of social distancing. Needless to say the following day did not lead to me putting everything back but according to the law of piles slowly started to grow until the day in question.

Oh in a bit of an ironic note. I tripped over the “junk” due to the fact I was pulling the wheelie bins in from the road.

Hoping you heal well. Milk it for all the being waited on that it's worth in the meantime.

Can't count the number of injuries around here due to TMS, mostly back sprains from moving things around, yet again, to get at some other things. But there have been a couple of surgeries as well. I think you have plenty of company, CP, but don't let that get in the way of a good story. Hope you heal up quickly and well.

"Milking it for all it's worth" can be tough. If I'm really sick or injured, the last thing on I want to to be coddled or catered to; I just want to be left alone and take care of myself (after all, not matter what, to me "it's not that bad"). Now it fit's something minor, that's a different story...
Get better soon CP.

The orthopedic Dr I saw yesterday referred me to his partner who specializes in ACL tears so I’ll be seeing him on the 10th with an anticipated surgery date to follow.

TMS? Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation? Test Match Special? (A five day radio slog-athon describing the details of a cricket international preferably between England and Australia. Meade will know what I mean - not sure about Gob 'cos he's Welsh and they don't really do cricket.) Trump Malignancy Syndrome? Inquiring minds want to know.

So sorry to hear about your injury, CP; I hope your recovery will be speedy enough to get you back in the line-up for the playoffs.
