Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday
Lord Jim would have been 62 today.
He is sorely missed here.

That's for sure. Sail on, LJ.
And seriously — he would have only been 62?? I remember him from when I first logged onto the old 'Car Talk' board in the mid-1990s and I thought he was already close to 50 or so back then.

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?
Re: Happy Birthday
Surely Jim would have wanted this day to become a federal holiday. I propose that we change "Columbus/Indigenous People's Day" to Lord Jim Day and end all the arguing about what the day should be called and what should be celebrated.

That's a fine idea Joe.

I am sure Ronald Reagan approved this message.

Happy Birthday my friend. Wherever you are, I hope you are enjoying the show.

What a lovely thread.
I miss Lord Jim keenly indeed.

Too young, taken far too young. I miss Jim, I miss our phone chats. He was a decent man, (with some screwy political views.)

I miss him too. Thought of him on the 12th, and sent him greetings in the RWR section of heaven.

I miss him too; whether I agreed with him or not, his input here was always appreciated. And wherever he is now, I'm sure his input is appreciated there as well.

That's a fairly small section so they should have no trouble finding him to deliver your message. Cheers, Jim. You still owe me that $20 for GWB 2.0 .

Re: Happy Birthday
Although I knew LJ on-line for 20 years, I am truly sorry I never had the opportunity to meet him IRL. I enjoyed his lively spirit and sense of humor, and although he could be sharp I never knew him to be mean. His passing was a loss for all who knew him, and I hope his family is doing okay without him. May he find his place with Mary and the angels.
GAH!

Yes, he is a great loss.
For Christianity, by identifying truth with faith, must teach-and, properly understood, does teach-that any interference with the truth is immoral. A Christian with faith has nothing to fear from the facts
Re: Happy Birthday
I recall the humorous give and take with rubato.
Classic Lord Jim.
Classic Lord Jim.
Your collective inability to acknowledge this obvious truth makes you all look like fools.

Re: Happy Birthday
Another year. Still mourning the loss.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: Happy Birthday
Yep, still remembered still missed. I wonder how his family is doing.

Happy Birthday, LJ.
Just thought I'd re-post one for The Gipper....

Final Vote for Plan B Person of the Year for 2016

Thank you...
No, please...
Thank you very much...please be seated...
I apologize for the delay, but frankly I was overwhelmed...(well okay, the fact that I also had an important client conference call may have contributed to the delay, but no need to mention that...)
Overwhelmed and humbled...
Overwhelmed and humbled, not just by the great honor of winning that has been bestowed upon me, but also by the (as Joe correctly pointed out) historic nature of this victory...
I realize that being the person who has been elevated to PBPOTY with the highest percentage of the vote of anyone in the history of Plan B, and with the highest number of members participating in the election in the history of Plan B, places an additional responsibility upon my shoulders...
(And of course being the sort of modest, self-effacing person I am, you can count on me to never mention those facts again....)
It was a hard fought campaign, that at times got a little rough...
And I understand that there may be some lingering bitterness...(I'm still waiting for my congratulatory phone call from rube...)
But of course this election has never been about me; it's always been about you...all the members of Plan B...
This isn't really my victory...it's your victory...
So now that the election is over, it's time to bind up the board's wounds...
I pledge to go forward with charity for all, and malice towards none...(well, okay, maybe malice towards one or two...)
Again, I thank you, and I hope to prove worthy of your trust.
Now let the celebration festivities begin!
