There is/was a mod that allowed for the posts per page to be changed however it's for an earlier version of the software and isn't tested on this latest version, not only that but users reported lots of fiddly faults with their installs and it was constantly having to be tweaked, that may be why it's not been validated for use with current software.
The other issue with any change to posts per view from the mod I found wouldn't impact on the forum currently, but as we grow it could make quite a significant difference - and thats the pagination times and query load - essentially it would slow down the threads opening time and increase the load on the database, whilst the times are fractions of seconds when they get multiplied by the number of users it can eventually cause real problems.
We can certainly keep an eye out for a more efficient mod to add at a later date but for the moment I'd advise sticking with the status quo.

Actually there is - but it sets the default on a board basis rather than per user so it affects everyone rather than allowing members to choose their own - I have set it to 20 posts per page now hopefully that will be fine for all
