Best guess...
I think the 'users online' shows users active within the last 5 mins. You may have clicked on the user name within 5 mins of it being deleted. It doesn't exist anymore but still shows up as being recently active.
Am I right Admin? Do I get a biscuit?

The highly efficient admin team here are constantly on vigil for "Kim Kardishan sex movie" type posts, and deleted the spamers as soon as we've watched the movie...
