You've got to get internet access. You need to petition whoever it is that runs your house and tell them you have a right to access the webernet.

Seriously, Dale, you are missed around here. You are one of a handful of posters who really set the tone for what this place feels like (for better or worse ). I know I've given you a hard time on occasion, but that's only because I know you're expecting it, and can take it.

When you say there is "no internet access" where you live, exactly what does that mean? Is there a Wi-Fi signal in the building or somewhere near enough to use if your computer had a wireless card? I know when I used to rent out rooms in my house to University of Chicago grad students I had a wireless router (which came with my DSL service) hooked up to my phone line and anyone in the house with a laptop could use that. I've also noticed that my Android smartphone (which I use for work, and hate) keeps asking me if I want to use different Wi-Fi signals which it seems to detect wherever I go.

I have no lawyers, guns, or money to offer, but I'm hoping we can somehow get you back posting here soon. (We're running out of people to ban in the "Ban the person above you" thread... )

I'm not available to go to NorCal until probably October, but happy to do my time out there then.

Agnew. I had too google. For a second I thought it was from The Wizard of Oz.

My favorite Agnewism was "pusillanimous pussy-footers"....

That one was good too, but mine had a triple, not a double, alliteration*...and we were talking about nattering here...




* BTW, he also used "hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history." in that same speech! (IIRC, William Safire wrote it.)

Another one of my favorite Agnewisms:

While the "nattering nabobs" line was written by Safire, the "pusillanimous pussy footers" line as well as the one I just referenced about the "effete corps of impudent snobs" were written by a man who's daughter I went to high school with....

As she and and I are still in occasional contact (and her dad is still alive) I'm not going to post his name.

I'll miss you dales. And if you need guns, rifles actually, getting a pistol permit in NY is problematic, (or bows or crossbows) I have them and I am an excellent shot.
