My local GP (who is utterly fabulous) has just changed practices. So today I took Pudd to have his age 4 jabs (which he was very brave didn't flinch or cry) and register myself and him with our Gp just at this new practice. When I had finished filling in forms and signing everything I asked the Receptionist if she needed me to sign a release form so our Med Recs could be transferred to the new practice. I was handed a form and then told to call number I was given - to give my credit card details to pay 30 bucks ( I can feel my blood pressure going up again) so they will release my med recs to the GP that has written them!! Well fuck me swinging I was gobsmacked and had steam coming outta my ears.

So I rang this number...apparently my old GP practice has been bought out which is why she moved. and it is "their policy as we have to cover courier costs" I then explained I am am also a Medical Receptionist and I know they are simply going to type in my surname and DOB and hit send as we all use the same puter programs to send and recieve med recs, results etc. She then told me no we courier them hard copy. So I offered to go pick them up and take them myself! She was a bit gobsmacked by this and didn't know what to say so i suggested i chat to the Practice Manager who was out!!

Apparently shes ringing me back!! Fuckin right she is or I am going in their guns blazing. They have no right to withold my med recs if i refuse to pay the $30. What angers me even more is the fact how many people OAPS, people who cannot afford it have paid it simply because they have been told too.

I shall win this...and then I shall find the correct authority to report this too.

They're *your* records. Other than paying for copying costs, I don't see how they can even justify the $30 fee. Go get 'em!

Well done SMF! Do you know that if you are to see your records yourself, they will have to go through them with a black marker and take out anything they see as "not in your interest to know."

How do I access my health records?

Under Queensland Health’s policy on administrative access to health records, members of the community may, in most circumstances, obtain access to their own health records held by a public hospital or community health service within Queensland. You can also request access to your health records under the FOI Act.

Requests for access to health records must be in writing and directed to the office of the medical superintendent of the relevant public hospital or the manager of the community health service. A list of public hospitals and facilities is available on the Queensland Health website.

Documentary evidence of identity should also be supplied at this time (for example, a certified copy of a driver’s licence or birth certificate). Administrative access to health records will usually be provided within 15 working days of receipt of the request.
