It took Kimberley Vlaminck three long years and nine painful laser treatments to finally look like herself again - her face no longer etched with 56 tattooed stars.
Vlaminck, a 22-year-old from Belgium, made headlines around the world in 2009 after she emerged from a tattoo parlor with an entire constellation inked on the left side of her face.
Then-19-year-old Vlaminck had initially lied to her parents and the media, claiming that she asked a local tattooist for only three stars near her eyes, but he kept adding more and more after she dozed off under the needle.
But she later confessed that she specifically requested the artist, Rouslan Toumaniantz, to etch all 56 stars onto her face.
Vlaminck quickly came to regret her hasty decision as the image of her star-spangled face was splashed across websites and news reports around the world, with many people labeling her a 'freak.'
This week, the 22-year-old from the Belgian city of Coutrai had her final laser session to remove the last traces of the unfortunate tattoo, according to the local TV station 7Sur7.
A recent image of Vlaminck that has surfaced on the social news site Reddit shows the smiling young woman showing off the left side of her face - now blemish-free and bearing no visible scars.
Stars have gone...
Stars have gone...
“If you trust in yourself, and believe in your dreams, and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy.”
