Groom asks bride for divorce on wedding day when he sees her face

By Mark Molloy - Daily Telegraph

A heartless groom reportedly demanded a divorce on his wedding day when he saw his bride's face for the first time. The Saudi husband apparently had a change of heart when his wife lifted her veil for a photograph on her big day.

According to Saudi daily newspaper Okaz, the man jumped to his feet and announced he wanted an immediate separation. “You are not the one I had imagined,” he told her. “I am sorry, but I divorce you.”

The couple had both agreed to the arranged marriage without meeting face-to-face, Okaz reports. “The groom said he had not been able to see his bride's face before marriage,” the newspaper said. “When he divorced her, the bride collapsed and the wedding turned into a night of tears.”

Shocked guests at the wedding in Medina, a city in western Saudi Arabia, reportedly stepped in to try and resolve the argument. However, it doesn’t seem likely the pair put aside their differences in time for a honeymoon.

Meanwhile, another man in Saudi Arabia is seeking to divorce after claiming his wife kept ignoring his WhatsApp messages.

..and he wasn't asking for a divorce - he commanded it

Me too.

We here in the U.S. are allowed to choose mates based on their looks so we don't get shocked on our wedding day when the loving, caring & intelligent person we chose turns out to have an ugly face.

 I've always wondered how often that happens...

Nothing in the OP suggests that the 'couple' mentioned knew each other to be loving, caring and intelligent - clearly HE wasn't at all the embodiment of such qualities.

I read 'arranged marriage' and 'Saudi husband' and I know her veil was more like a burka veil than the sheer lace of most western brides and most importantly of all, here in America a woman doesn't have to measure her worth by the marriage she engages in and she can respond to such a jackass by saying 'fuck you, buddy!' because she is likely to be able to support herself and she doesn't need no stinking sexist pig to 'own' her or to 'allow' her to visit outside the family, drive a car, read books, get an education, etc.

So yes, maybe some of us in America have shallow values (not me, I'd choose intelligence and caring over good looks 7 days of the week), but at least we have FREE WILL to go along with our vaginas, thank you very much!!
