Thank God!

Post by Lord Jim »

Now I'll finally be able to get a good night's sleep again:

Tom Brady’s Missing Super Bowl LI Jersey Found

The culprit appears to be a journalist in Mexico. [BUILD THAT WALL!!!]

An investigation by Houston police, the FBI, the NFL, Brady's New England Patriots and other law enforcement authorities [Meade mode] When did the New England Patriots become a "law enforcement authority" ? [/ Meade mode] ended with the quarterback's Super Bowl LI jersey being found "in the possession of a credentialed member of the international media," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement.

The suspect has not been identified, and there have been no criminal charges filed.

Brady wore the jersey while leading the Patriots to the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history, the first to go into overtime. The 34-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Feb. 5 in Houston gave Brady his fifth championship.

Brady discovered the jersey missing immediately after the game, saying he remembered putting it in his bag. "It's unfortunate, because that's a nice piece of memorabilia," he told reporters.

A Houston Police Department report on the theft estimated the jersey's value at $500,000.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo noted Monday that the case was not a high priority, given other more important crimes that happen in the city. But he said his force instigated the investigation because the stolen jersey was the game's "only blemish" on the host city.

"You don't come to Texas and embarrass us on our home turf," he said.

Maybe Meade would suggest an Oxford comma to clarify that for you. 8-)

There's a rumor that James Comey actually stole the Jersey but gave it back after the hearing because he felt bad about one of the analogies he made. He made a deal with the NFL that if he would give it back, they would blame it all on a Mexican.

Apparently this dude has done it before. And there was video---- see clip embedded in article:

https://www.boston.com/sports/new-engla ... 3Afacebook
In the video, a digitally blurred figure who appears to be a credentialed media member can be seen walking into the Patriots locker room at 10:04 p.m. local time following their comeback win against the Atlanta Falcons in Houston. Fourteen minutes later, the same individual — who was also wearing a backpack — can be seen exiting the locker room with “something” under his left arm.

According to Glazer, authorities used the video to “track down” the alleged jersey thief.

“Fox did the game,” he said. “We had cameras everywhere, so we’ve been scouring and scouring video. We just obviously had to make sure we had the right person. … This is who authorities are zeroing in on.”

The suspect was subsequently identified Monday by several Mexican outlets as Mauricio Ortega, an executive at the Mexican tabloid La Prensa until he resigned last Tuesday.

In a statement Monday, La Prensa said Ortega had apparently used his position at the outlet to get Super Bowl credentials and access. According to the paper, Ortega cited the health of close family members for his resignation. La Prensa said their management previously had no knowledge of Ortega’s alleged actions and offered an apology to its readers and the Mexican people (USA Today has a translation of the paper’s seven-point statement here).

According to Glazer, the suspect also may have taken memorabilia from Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller following Super Bowl 50.

And I hope he is treated just like OJ, who was only collecting NFL memorabilia as well.
