True. There is a Lowes and a Home Depot here which are perhaps 1/4 mile apart; yet sales tax is (I think) 0.5% higher at Lowes. Nevertheless I prefer Lowes just because I find the staff more helpful on the whole.

You mean the sales tax or the liquor stores?

WA has no income tax. There are State and local Sales taxes. The State sales tax is 6.5%, but sales taxes vary wildly from county to county and city to city due to the local tax rates. 10% isn't unusual. Local sales taxes keep going up while the State tax hasn't changed since 1983.


As for liquor stores, the State got out of that business due to a public initiative paid for by retailers. Didn't matter much to me as I'm a teetotaler.
