(Some day these amateur "videographers" will learn to hold their devices on "landscape" and not "portrait." Have they no knowledge of digital aspect ratio?)

And just what is the artistic excuse for what I see on tv all the time--take the vertical format pic and put an out-of-focus copy on each side of it?

It's exactly as RayThom said snailgate. If they hold their phones "long side down" instead of "short side down'' as they record, they won't have that problem.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

I really find it helpful when a video is labeled in such a way that it saves me from clicking on it... :ok
